Daytona Vs. Overseas
Daytona owners. Would you rather buy a second Daytona or a VC Overseas and why?

I would buy the VC because I certainly don't need another of the same watch. I like variety but of course this is a personal choice.

Had both, still have the VC OS. Both great watches.
To me the VC has a better bracelet, a cleaner bezel and a date function. Would also rather have a Cosmo and OS instead of two SS Daytonas (B&W). May think otherwise if you're going with a gold one with a hot dial though. |

Thanks, most likely Pink Gold, but also eyeing the YG and White gold models. VC would be in pink gold with a strap as my first choice. The VC with 18K band is up there in price.

Thinking of selling my SS OS and getting this one too. Just stunning.

Matt you have a great collection. That is the one I think I am looking at pre-owned in pink gold, limited to US only...are we looking at the same watch. I won't be able to pull the trigger until spring.

Id say the VC without a doubt but you can't go wrong with either.
If you already have a Daytona I think the VC for sure! |

I'd get (and in fact have been considering the purchase of) a VC, but I'd be reluctant to get a new one, as I've seen used ones sell (new-style face, band, etc) for well under $10K (one as low as $6K, and this wasn't an oldie, was a newer one w/new face, band, etc), an amazingly low price for a watch carrrying a pert near $18K list price.
But I was detoured by the purchase of the sub, so unless I get a screamin' deal on one, I'll be staying w/what I've got until next year, per contractual agreement w/the wifey!

I would get the VC in part because I like variety in my collection. The two are completely in difference classes watchwise. I would be mindful that a VC will cost around $1600.00 for servicing, compared to around $400.00 for a Rolex. But if this is not an issue for you, I would think the VC would be a great addition to your collection. VC is the oldest mechanical watchmaker in the world, more that 250 years old at the moment. It all depends on what you want in terms of watch "values" so to speak. The VC is polished by hand, etc., Rolex is a mass produced watch--wonderfully reliable and inexpensive to maintain. But I have also heard nothing but good things about VC also. Best of luck.

$1600 for VC service would not be a good thing since I plan to buy pre-owned. That may just make up my mind. The last time I had my Daytona service it cost $650 and it had some real issues not just clean and oil change.

I am also planing on selling my Overseas SS for the Rose Gold. I am trying to go for the 18K RG Bracelet though, as I've recently been bitten by the RG bug - but given the current economic times, it's hard to justify dropping 32K+ (after hard haggling) on it.
Landroverking - if I'm not mistaken, the new issues of VC this year include the non-special edition of RG on strap. Although it would be hard to find one pre-owned at this moment. Give it a bit (easier said than done) before they hit the pre-owned market. I was also looking at the AP RO chrono - not the AP ROO, but the RO Chrono with display back (fantastic 21K rotor visible!) but only 50M WR. Older style comes in 36-39MM and new in-house movement comes in 40MM. 1 AP ROO is too much for me - direct competition with PAM 161 on "roll-up your sleeves because your damn watch is too thick day" |

I sent my SS Overseas to the SPA - full service (lubs, buffing-lots, etc.), no replacement parts, it was less than $1100 USD last year. Has the price gone up to $1600?

Is your proposed second Daytona S/S, TT or full-gold? If you already have a S/S, then buying a nice TT or even full-gold Daytona might be a worthwhile option. Personally, I've been looking at the TT version with the "Paul Newman'' dial that was previously only available on the full-gold model.
Having said that, VC is a very respected name in the world of watches and you probably won't go wrong there either. |

As an owner of both a SS Daytona and a SS VS OS Chrono I would choose the VC.
I did choose the SS VC over a YG Daytona. |

Curious to know, those that voted Daytona. Have you ever handled a VC Overseas?

Yes, I have indeed handled a Vacheron Overseas, both the old style and the subsequently updated style, the former in yellow gold, yellow gold bracelet and the latter in rose gold, rose gold bracelet. Sure they're beautiful, but I ended up getting a yellow gold Daytona instead.

Overseas - I was able to try one on recently. Great watch, especially if you already have a Daytona.
