I understand your position OP and get where you are coming from. I have the same issue every time I buy a new watch. We all want them to look like they did when we tried them on the day of purchase. Nothing wrong with this.
But life is short and you really should (in my opinion) try to get over the anxiety and enjoy it. My last purchase was a RG Daytona which I told myself I will wear without worry. I had a holiday booked a couple of weeks after and wore the watch ever day, everywhere (beach, pool, evening meals) and enjoyed the hell out of it. Yes i have a few scratches but its only probably me who notices them anyway. Enjoy that beautiful watch! |

OP, I get it and think it is normal to want to take care of our possessions. I like the quote, "The most expensive items we own are the ones we don't use." I would get appropriate insurance and wear your watch. You will adjust to it over time and it will become the norm for you.

Why keep it pristine for the next owner? They probably won't even thank you.

Over thinking.. wear the watch!
You can always have it polished or change the bezel if it gets to beat up! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

The Connery photo with a gun and Rolex is of a fictional character. That implies mythology and not reality. It doesn't exactly make a good point, imho.

Wear the watch like soldiers did walking thru the jungles of Vietnam or pilots wearing their GMTs on combat missions over Vietnam.

Quote:
However, as Rolex wearers, we often play the role of fictional characters ourselves, pretending to be the type of people who need 4000m dive watches, the reference that a president wore, the complication that Pam Am pilots used on long hauls. I'm guilty of this self-conceit as well. This is a bit of introspection, in truth. I wonder if the idea that scratches add character and are the bona fides of a man of action doesn't sometimes play well with this act. A watch without scratches marks a man of less worth? However, one of the saddest things in this world is a machine, human or mechanical, built for a special purpose, lain fallow. Sent from my CPH2583 using Tapatalk |

If you are concerned with scratches on your Rolex, you really should sell it and buy a Timex or Seiko or Citizen.
Get over it… The Rolex can take it, can you? Sincerely, Gus.

Now this is an interesting idea. So, would SGTPEPER consider telling us the story of how he chose Rolex and specifically the Daytona?? I love to hear stories like this - I mean seriously, how often do we hear about famous Rolex owners. But I would love to have a thread about how YOU chose Rolex and how did YOU come to buy your specific model. Ok, new thread coming.... PDG |

wear it as intended. I promise, after a while, this fear of scratching it etc will go away.
these are not investments and they're not meant to be babied. everything is fixable |

Did I Make a Mistake? Nervous to Wear it...
Buy more watches to wear. The more you have, the less scratches you have on each watch. If you rotate evenly, then you’ll only wear each one about 20% of the time during the course of the year.
It’s obviously not the reason why I bought more watches, but it is an observed bi-product of doing so. All my watches look pristine and I think it’s because none of them are “daily drivers.” Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Spending all that money and not having a chance to actually enjoy it would be the mistake. Wear in good health and just don't overthink it.

Wear it!!
It's a watch... if you are that worried, there are many other things to pay good money for that you can use. The comparison earlier to the Porche is close but slightly different since you can't control other drivers, road hazards, stone chips etc. But even then, unless it's some rare museum piece, drive it!! The watch is made to take daily wear, if you are sticking your hands in the mouth of live sharks, maybe a G-Shock or now watch that day but just wear your Rolex!!! In five years if it's scratched up, they can make it look like new again, one of the cool things about metal. Enjoy or sell, don't stress over a watch. Life is too short.

You seem to have a mental block because you paid double your budget.
Your car is probably at least double what you paid for the watch. It’s likely been rained on, driven on shitty roads, flew 80 miles an hour down the highway behind a dump truck. Not a care in the world… Wear the watch. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Thanks for the advice everyone. I've been wearing it everywhere lately. I love the watch and plan to buy a few more to take the daily strain off it as well!
Such a cool watch |

Unless it's a trophy wife ;-)
. . OP buy an H Moser, a Cartier, an MB&F, and a Rolex DD40. Wear and enjoy. PS: You best be tracking the McLaren.

I get where you coming from OP but you did chose a watch with a steel bezel and polish centre links...It does scratch easily and can make the watch look messy. Up to you to decide if you want the worn tool look or not.
It's not an excuse to not wear it but it sounds like you talked yourself into not wearing it. Worn or unworn it won't make any difference really to a watch like this in terms of resale so you might as well embrace the scratches imo. |

That's exactly the same motto for Leo Dicaprio's dating life as well. He's never nervous or afraid to to enjoy the heck out of his new toys I say it applies to watches, cars, and all the big boy toys. Very apropo.
