That guy is an idiot and does not know what he’s is taking about. If you modify the watch yes! Rolex will void your warranty, However why would you or the grey dealer?
Makes no sense to me.

Some of those guys just make #$&T up to make a sale or put doubt in your mind.

Cheers,

That has generally been my experience, Rolex AD SA's aren't anywhere near as bad as car salesmen, but they are typically full of BS too!

As for why anyone would sub parts on a watch still under warranty, here are some examples:

If you purchased a black dial OP and had an original Tiffany dial installed by a third party, and later the 32** movement started acting up, then took it to RSC, there’s a strong chance Rolex will void your warranty because the watch was opened by someone other than RSC.

Similarly, if you had a vintage or neo vintage piece serviced with a two year warranty, and six months later had the hands lume stabilized by a third party, then brought it back a year later due to unrelated timekeeping issues, Rolex would likely void the warranty. Even though the lume work had nothing to do with the movement, the third party modification during the warranty period would be grounds to void the warranty.
These seem like pretty rare scenarios in context of the SA's comments in OP. Most of the watches competing with the CPO's are simply resellers moving inventory along.

Who sends vintage to an RSC for service? There's a good chance RSC will want to "fix" all the things that make it valuable, and people buying vintage aren't typically looking for a two year warranty on a 40 year old watch.

If a “Grey” dealer is doing proper due diligence and opening a case back, this voids the warranty. Can this be undetected? Sometimes if done carefully. But many remove bracelets carelessly and leave marks when opening casebacks.

In the USA a warranty cannot be wholesale voided thanks to the Magnuson Moss Act. And from what I can gather the Act puts the burden on the manufacturer to show why the modification justified the denial of any work.

Not a lawyer but I do watch all the shows.
