Panerai crown seal issues?
Had a PAM25 and sold it years ago.
Saw a PAM243 at an AD the other day and it spoke to me (you know the words...) The way the crown seals with the lever is the main issue holding me back. I have had the best of luck with the conventional screw down type crowns in the past (lots of diving with a Rolex Sub) with zero issues. So, my question is: Has anyone had any issues with their Panerai crowns not sealing properly, even with the lever in the proper position? Has anyone used theirs for extensive scuba diving? If so, what was your experience. Thanks for your responses ahead of time. |

Welcome to the Forum.. especially to the BLUE side...
Panerais Subs are made for diving, and the locking mechanism have been tested and tried by divers for decades... it is originally made for Italian divers... i would not worry about it.. it does what it said on the box.. |

What I understood is that they test their water resistance with crown lever open.
I wouldn't wear any watch for diving, rather a proper tricked out dive computer instead. |

Thanks for the responses.
I here your message regarding the design and history of Italian Navy divers. I would still like to know if anyone here has had any issues (good or bad) regarding current (within last fiver years or so) submersible models in real world scuba diving situations. Thanks again |

I have never had a problem with a Pam in the water, but then again, my watches only go to the bottom of the deep end of the pool.

Hi TR,
Do you have a drawing of the latest Panerai seal. The old original patent shows it only seals when the lever is closed? Other drawings I have seen are too small to read properly.

I do recall some risti posted a collection of underwater pictures of diving with PAM. And just saw a guy post about his tour to Panerai factory, one picture showed cases with lever open submerged in water for testing.
Note that I often read that it's recommended to send your watch for service more regularly, like every year, if you do take it to diving. To ensure that seals, gaskets etc are in good condition. It applies to any watches that rated for diving. |
