Seller asked to cancel a deal on eBay

Has anybody had a seller ask to cancel a sale on eBay? Basically he's having sellers remorse because he accepted a lower amount then got whacked with fees.

Part of me is like sorry man, I laid out what I would offer and you accepted. Not my fault you didn't know the fee gouge.

It's on a Black Bay 58 GMT which I was pretty stoked to get. I don't want him to try anything funny. It has the authentic guarantee.

How would you handle it?????

I sold something on eBay once and then couldn’t find it. I felt terrible and asked the buyer if I could cancel the sale and refund their money. There was no issues. I did not find the item I had sold for 6 months.

Shortly after I posted he messaged back and said don't worry and he will ship tomorrow. Now I do feel a little bad because IDK his situation and if it really harms him financially. Getting soft in my old age.

Up to you, but I would offer him an out if he needs it. I’m sure you’ll have people say “a deal is a deal” or “tough for him,” but IMO at the end of the day it’s just a watch and sometimes it’s better to help someone out.

Did the seller precisely indicate buyers remorse from accepting lower amount/whacked with fees? Just curious if there is more to the story.

It sounds like he is an inexperienced, or worse a first-time, seller who had a local contingency sale pending (either a friend or a pawn shop).

Now with the eBay fees, he will net less $$$ than if he had sold to them locally.

Have you sent the funds per the sale?
If so then let the deal be fulfilled.

It's the only way he can learn is to hold up his end of the transaction. There are myriad tools for sellers to use when accepting offers that will yield their net proceeds using different final sale values.

Yeah I paid. I sent him a message this morning when I woke up stating I wouldn't want to have a part in doing some financial harm to someone so if it really is a problem he can cancel the deal. I'm good either way after sleeping on and and reading the thoughts of others.

Maybe it's a sign for me to hold out for a Pelagos 39 GMT lol.

You are over thinking it and supposing what could be occurring. It is a business transaction and the seller listed, sold and accepted payment for an item. Now you are going to cancel the sale based on your feelings and possibly pay more for a similar item. Maybe it is a sign that you should not lead with your feelings.

I had a very similar but opposite experience. I bought something ridiculously cheap, and what actually surprised me the most was that no one bid more on it. That's why I sent the seller a fair price compared to the actual auction price. The interesting fact about it, that that event also happened almost Christmas time

I sent a buy it now price too that he accepted. Basically outlined how the BB 58 GMT price is currently inflated due to lower inventory as it is newer. I offered the price it will probably settle at in a year or so and he accepted.

It shouldn’t bother you to uphold an agreement made between two parties. If you are feeling charitable give him an out but you owe him nothing. This isn’t about a man putting food on the table it’s a luxury watch on eBay.

Appreciate it. I feel good about it because I get the watch and he said it was all good.

My only hang up now is I know I just pushed into existence a Pelagos 39 GMT and I'll take a hit selling the 58 lol.

Earlier this year, I had a 18239 WG DD in my watchlist on ebay. The price was good, but not great.

I was sitting on the sofa and got a notification on my phone that the seller was offering a 20% discount on it which made it an INSANELY good deal, so I bought it and paid immediately.

A few hours later, the seller cancelled the transaction, reason, "Item no longer available." I knew it was bullshit and called him on it. He basically said he hand't intented to offer a discount on that, he meant to offer it on his sports memorabilia.

If he'd have messaged me to begin with and told me what happened, I'd have been fine and probably would have tried to negotiate a deal with him. But, to just cancel it was messed up.

In this circumstance, I think you did the right thing in offering to let him out, but being willing to stay in the deal if he wanted. Class act.

Good on you. Im generally skeptical when it comes to online purchases but if it was requested politely and you fell you don't NEED it, then why not. You'll get rewarded in another way
