NYC AD Recommendation

Hi all! Long time lurker finally deciding to take a plunge into the world of Rolex. I've been wrestling with the idea of buying a SS Daytona off the Internet or a GMT IIC from an AD. This would most likely be my only Rolex. I think all the things Ive learned through TRF have pushed me towards a GMT IIC through an AD. I will be making a trip to NYC this fall and would appreciate any AD recommendations (pls PM me). I'd especially appreciate these 20% discounts I keep reading about! Try as I have, Ive only managed to scrounge up a 6% discount from my local ADs. I'm hoping to do better in NYC (and take advantage of the benefit of mailing it home). Thanks in advance for any help offered.

I really liked the people at Wempe in NYC. I don't think you'll get anywhere near 20% off.

Thanks for the responses all! I will reach out to bodybump(Oscar), but considering he replied above that 20% is a tough target I may have to tone down my expectations.

If you find an AD in NYC that gives 20% off please let me know also.

Rent is high in NYC.......

You are better off buying here on TRF. Contract DavidSW. You will save more than any AD and no tax.

You can get good deals on 47th st. Stay away from Tourneau...

Depends on what you are looking for, if two-tone or all gold - i have been offered only 10% off at Wempe last December. This is huge as Wempe never used to discount.

I purchased my wife's TT DJ from Wempe and got 20%.. Maybe they had a bunch of the same model in stock and wanted to dump one? You'll never get 20% for a SS model, but TT or gold you have a better shot. Good luck!

Try Wilson and Sons in Scarsdale. You can take Metro North from Grand Central and walk to the store from the Scarsdale stop (nice town to have lunch too)

I would also look up AD's in north Jersey if possible. By train its only a couple of miles away.

Just always remember "anywhere but Tourneau!!"

Why limit yourself to NYC based on your trip? Why not go to the retailer section of Rolex.com and start calling all over? Or go through this forum and do a search, you'll definitely find some leads where you can order over the phone from out of state dealers.

Agreed.

Here in NYC is one of the toughest spots to find a discount.

Call somewhere out in the sticks & see if they ship.

Good luck

Good points about calling around! I guess I was getting lazy and hoping that there was an easy answer in NYC given that I was going there for vacation anyways. I just hate the idea of randomly cold calling these ADs. This may be a moot point anyways since there are some fantastic deals here in the for sale section offered by TRF members!

I got one for 40% off from a guy in an alley off Times square. Hey, did you know the gold models were green underneath? I never had a clue.

Wempe cut me above 20% discounts on Omega without me asking- about 3 weeks ago. Not sure what they would do on Rolex but TT are rumored to be discounted further than SS.

Tourneau seems to be universally reviled. Last time in NYC I didn't even enter there. NJ shops could ship to your hotel in NYC free of tax....

I think it will be really hard for you to get a 20% discount from any AD in NYC, don't go to the Diamond District either, they may give you a 20% discount but it will be marked up really high. I think you should just buy online, you can definitely get something for less than retail.

Hi, If you can come to South Jersey, I can give a AD number, I'm pretty sure you'll get 20% off. Let me know.

20% off on hot Rolex models in close to impossible at an AD in nyc. on 47th you might be able to get that and more but not on a daytona.

I stay away from the big T for many reasons. Wempe is MUCH better and they treat you like customer, instead of punishing you for being one but they have trouble stocking anything popular and its a hit or miss about whats in stock.
