Differences in Submariners....
Im about to pick up a 16610 "v" series. My father has the same watch, no date..and has had it for about 30 years...so I'm not sure of the series...
What differences will there be between the watches? I'm wondering about the bracelet? I know the crystal on his will stick out further...what about differences in size? Thanks guys! |

The case diameters of 40 mm should be the same. The 16610 will have a better bracelet with SEL links (i.e. Solid End Links between the lugs of the watch case). The 16610 will have the calibre 3135 movement (been there since 1989) whereas your dad's watch will have a much older movement. Crystal thickness on the 16610 is 2 mm with a depth rating of 1000 feet. Not sure what the depth rating would be on the older watch - probably 660 ft. Good luck - JJ

Well, your Dad sounds like he has a reference 5513 (could be a very late 5512-COSC).
His is a non-COSC watch carrying an older 15xx slow beat movement. If original it will have a matt tritium dial/hands combination. The crystal will be a domes acryllic variety and the bezel will be a friction fit bi-directional as opposed the 120 click uni-directional bezel on yours. As stated your has the fast beat 3135 COCS movement and of course a non lug hole case as oppased to your father's lug hole version. His bracelet is a non-sel (solid end link) 93150 with 580 endlinks and has the old style pull out diver's extention (currently the only modern reference that still has this is the reference 14060M). It might also have what has been described as a maxi-dial (serial number and photo would help). While his is not COSC certified, 5513s can and are capable of accuracy on par with modern references. Both you's and his will hack the movement. His will feel lighter than yours, but don't confuse that with not being as rugged/well made. You have all the modern upgrades...He has the history of a "tool watch" of an era we will never see again. Treat him nice!! 5513 MK III maxi about 1977, |

His is rated for 200m, but his bracelet looks different...is it supposed to look the same on both sides? His almost curls...

Do you mean the links curl (fold) into each other? Maybe a 9315 folded link bracelet.

Humm...... 200m is correct, but does the 200 come before feet? If so it's an earlier model and if the bracelet "curls" might be a folded link style. If original might be a bit more desirable to a collector depending on condition.
Here's a couple shots of a 93150 bracelet and an earlier 9315 folded link. Anything look familier?? |

Just spoke to him, the bracelet is original, and it has 9315 stamped on it, just like the one in the photos..

With an original 9315 bracelet the watch is older than I orginally thought. Might be a 5513 or 5512.
Post some good photos before you do anything. No sense inadvertantly risking the value of the piece. |

Just be aware that if you send it in for service, Rolex will want to replace the dials and such which is not what most people want on older models.

Is this normal for a 2009 Watch? Or is anything other meant by "pull out diver´s extension"?? Hermann |

I'm no expert but I just collected my new 16610 v series last Thursday and it's perfect. It hasn't been off my wrist since. It's so much more comfortable than the Daytona. You've made a great choice. Enjoy !

Please don't let him do anything to that watch!!! It is perfect just the way it is. Please let us know before he sends it in for service...........We can give some good advice so that the watch will remain all original.
You are a lucky guy to have a dad with a cool watch like that.

From what I can see, very nice. I would not sent that watch to any RSC for service, but rather use one of the Independents on the forum.
These guys know the value and heritage of your Dad's watch...preserve it. |
