Nah, that's just your opinion. I've been lucky enough to watch Junior since his days in the minors at Bellingham, and all of his time with the Mariners. Phenomenal baseball player, but injuries curtailed any serious comparisons to Willie Mays. In the last 5 years he's just missed too much time, and he's now a shell of his former baseball self.

And I appreciate that. As much as I love football and other sports, baseball is the greatest of games, imo. I catch one or two Yankee games every year, when they visit Safeco Field. This year we got to see the M's beat Joba Chamberlain and the Yanks in a tight game.

Anyway, the Angels look to be toast, though after 2004 I'm not betting on anything.

I will say the Yankees look to be tough to beat. The Phillies will have their hands full (if they win).

And I'd have killed to watch a game at Polo. A park with some of the weirdest dimensions in history.

It's a little difficult to say who was the best player of ALL TIME. I think it would be more apt to ask who was the best player for their era since there were subtle changes to the game throughout the years that mere stats would not account for.

However with that said, I'd have to vote for Babe as the best player for his era. He could beat you with his bat and arm.

It's true. Without Jackie opening the door, maybe Mays doesn't get his chance. Willie came into the league only four years after Jackie broke the color barrier. He did all the hard work, and had a tremendous burden to bear. I think that did ending up shortening his career and life. I wonder if todays African American players really appreciate what he did for them.

I agree with all the above and would like to add that it was not easy for Willie. Hell, it was still bad for players like Aaron.

true...and not so true... willie mays was a HERO in new york... he was very beloved... when he got to cali it wasnt so easy for him..... there was an adjustment period there...

i read in a few different books that mays was a legend in harlem.... he used to play stick ball with the kids all the time....

Very true about adjustments in California. But he also became beloved in San Francisco and still is.
