New Ceramic Sub, What happens to the No Date?

Just Curious, I am sure it has been discussed on this site. What happens to the sub ND when the new ceramic comes out. Discontinued? Face-Lift? Nothing?

Bye Bye Lug Holes? Bye Bye No SEL?

Can anyone share any insight on the future of the 14060m?

I hope that it will remain as it is now.

I think it'll remain as it is...only a guess, though. Personally, I hope I'm right because I like it as it is!

It isn't in the current catalogue. Not sure what will become of it.

Absolutely. Messing with it would be the end of the classic Submariner DNA line!

Take your pick:
Here is the definitions of classic:

clas·sic (kalsik)
adj.
1.
a. Belonging to the highest rank or class.
b. Serving as the established model or standard: a classic example of colonial architecture.
c. Having lasting significance or worth; enduring.
2.
a. Adhering or conforming to established standards and principles: a classic piece of research.
b. Of a well-known type; typical: a classic mistake.
3. Of or characteristic of the literature, art, and culture of ancient Greece and Rome; classical.
4.
a. Formal, refined, and restrained in style.
b. Simple and harmonious; elegant: the classic cut of a suit; the classic lines of a clipper ship.
5. Having historical or literary associations: classic battlefields of the Civil War.

I would say all of those would sum up the classic submariner

To me, "classic" means the original - i.e., no date, original dimensions, original basic design.

But I feel if Rolex does change the Submariner (or sub non date as some like to call it) then I feel the example of 2b above would be the result "a classic mistake"

Actually.. No..:) but we can wait and see.. they still do the exp 1 in its original case, and the 1016 (earlier exp 1) was the longest running unchanged model. I imagine it will stay around for a while.

I havent known rolex for a long time, but I would suspect that they will discontinue it/keep producing the current version - NOT update it.

It would be nice that way - like the SD

i dunno. i'm new to Rolex, but they seem to be making some bold moves. discontinuing "classics", making whole new lines, green bezels, green hands, green CRYTALS, updated clasps, updated movements, updated sizes, updated METALS - i mean, for the world's most widely recognized and "traditional watch", it seems that lately they're going from publicity stunts to a broader clientelle. like my wife says, "they all look the same", but they're doing some really cool stuff technologically so they don't have to make dramatic aesthetic changes...like crown protectors or 48mm dials or exhibition casebacks. so, it would make sense if the updated subs had ceramic bezels and new clasps and maybe an internal tweak just to keep things fresh, but i don't see them DROPPING the no-date.

they should though. :)

while i LOVE my ND..... I would LOVE to see rolex continue their updates and do a new ND. its a classic clean look and a more affordable alternative for some people. if they did a clean looking more affordable ND i would definately pick one up to sit along side my current ND.
