hi everyone, i'm wondering if i'm damaging the movement of my rolex? I have sub no date, daytona, and a cellini danaos, that i keep on a fire proof safe box, its not wind, or should I say its not on a winder, so everytime I want to wear one I have to wind it and set the time, the daytona and cellini I rarely wear (only special occasion) and that makes me worry that the oil would dry or something??? please i need some advise since these are expensive investments, that I plan to keep for a very long time.

p.s I also have a panerai 177 that I keep there and is wondering if its the same problem.

No harm, just get them serviced every few years.

Even if you do not wear the others I would try and give them a good 40 winds 1 or 2 X per month

If not being worn, a safe is the best place for a watch. There's alot of debate about if a movement gets more wear from not having it running, or having it running even if it's not being worn. Your dials will also keep better if not being in direct sunlight when not being worn.

for me since there are alot of fires in california lately, I just don't want to loose my investments. theft is also another concern, but i'm curious what it does to the movements. I'm not a watch experts, but in cars, if you dont use your car for a while some parts or lines, tubes get dried, and needed to be lubricated, flushed or replaced. maybe its the same analogy??

If you use your watches once every few weeks or months, they should be fine - lubrication drying, etc would not be a problem.

But I wouldn't leave an automatic watch lying unused for a long period, say a year or more because then you may have a problem with the oils drying up.
