Sea-dweller polizia di stato ? Fake ?
Has anyone seen this thing ? Does it really exist , supposedly 78 pieces ordered by the Italian state police divers unit .
There is one on offer on Ebay as well for about 75.000 usd ? The engraving on the back seems a bit "tacky" to me . |

It could be the real deal.
http://forums.watchuseek.com/showthread.php?p=1782078 http://babelfish.yahoo.com/translate...rUrl=Translate "REF. 16600 SEA-DWELLER POLIZIA DI STATO, SOMMOZZATORI 1958-2008 THE OCTOPUS HUNTING HAS BEGUN! The mania has already started on the forums, the experts keep talking about it and collectors crave to have one, even if they have to spend an exorbitant amount of money. We are talking about the Sea-Dweller ref. 16600 created for the scuba divers of the Polizia di Stato (Italian State Police), which lately represents the center of attention for Rolex collectors. This model has been realized in only 78 examples to celebrate the golden jubilee of the State Police Scuba Divers Institution. Among these 78 pieces, 28 have the engraving of the Military Brevet number on the case back. This is the document which gives scuba divers the qualification for practising their profession, and only 3 of them have a personalized signature. The dial is characterized by the logo representing an octopus and on the external case back, together with the circular engraving, the writing “POLIZIA DI STATO, SOMMOZZATORI 1958-2008” also appears. The production of only 78 pieces, makes it one of the most desirable and rare versions for collectors throughout the world; for this reason the Sea-Dweller ref. 16600 personalized State Police has been converted into the “depths professional” par excellence. Our advice is not to hesitate if you have the possibility of purchasing this watch because it's certain to become an important and precious collection piece, even if, given the prestige and importance which characterize it, such occasions to come into possession of this “jewel” will be few and far between. It is a real and very sought after watch, collectors are eager to drop between 30K to 50K Euro on it,wich is absolutely ridicolous...
It seems hard to find tho,Italian police officers that receive one must sign an agreement that virtually prohibits them to sell it. A lot of them eventually did it anyway... |

It would be one thing if the "customization" was done by Rolex, but weren't these aftermarket customizations? (I am not saying that the watch is not 100% authentic, just that it was a 3rd party customization)

It does seem like a high price, but I assume there are very few available out there given the info above about the agreement the officers had to sign that they wouldn't sell.
Anyway I would think papers would be very important on this watch, otherwise I don't think it would be all that hard to take any SD and add the customization. |

I personaly dont thinks its a ridiculous price..................wait actually yes I do LOL......but im sure to some collectors it is well worth it. Also, if the value increases and you could sell it for a decent return in the future, what difference is there in investing in stocks? Maybe it isnt so ridiculous after all......

Will Rolex service these watches?? Inquiring minds want to know Buyer Beware!!! Just do a google search on "Sea Dweller Polizia di Stato" and see how many fake SDs pop-up that look identical to that one on first glance. I realize that there was a small run of these that are authentic, but for that amount of money...........The scumbags will be coming out of the woodwork to try and scam some people.

Looks like sellers are trying to capitalise on the exorbitant prices that the COMEX Subs/Sea-dwellers fetched at recent auctions.

There is an article in the lastest Tiempo de Relojes here in Mexico, about this Italian unit and shows them wearing the watches....so it's real.

On a serious note, I am in love with it and would really likecto have one. I wonder who did the modification, as I would pay good money to have an octopus on my SD. Any suggestions who I could approach?
