Sooooo frustrated with Rolex Service Center
Okay... I sent my 20 year old Submariner to New York for service. Here is what I requested: overhaul, new bezel insert, new crystal, bracelet repair. Here is what they recommended: all of the above + new bracelet ($950.00), new caseframe ($1950.00), new dial ($270.00), new pair of hands ($54.00), new second hand ($27.00). Here is what we came up with: factory movt. service-pres prf, bzl insert & tube ($555.00), 1 x brac-93150 20mm S/St Oys Fliplock w 501B ($950.00), 1 x Sapphire Crystal ($135.00), 1 x Winding crown, monobloc ($105.00), Shipping and Handling ($35.50).
After paying $1780.50 and waiting what seemed like ages, I finally had my watch back in my hands! I had heard for years how Rolex could restore an old, scratched, time-worn watch and restore it to like new condition. When I opened the shipping box, I was shocked and disappointed to see my scratched, worn watch attached to a brand new, shiny, pristine bracelet. Apparently, because I chose not to purchase a new caseframe, NOTHING was done to my watch case, as far as cleaning, buffing, polishing, proper brushed finish on case lugs, etc. AND the bezel on my watch is so hard to turn, I thought the sideways torque applied to the end links was going to rip them free from their moorings. And this was with dry hands sitting at my desk. I can't dare imagine trying to adjust the bezel with wet hands while diving. So I spoke to a representive on the phone at the service department. Apoligies, apoligies, Sir, we'll send you a shipping box right out today, blah, blah, blah. So now, after patiently waiting almost six weeks and paying almost $2000.00, I must ship my watch BACK to New York. So far I have invested $63.00 just to shuttle my watch back and forth. I haven't shipped it out yet for the second go round, but when I do, there's another $30.00 I have to shell out for shipping. Wow. Sorry for the long post.. I'm just tired. Just plain tired. |

Yeah that's not good. I just experienced poor service myself from an RSC, but not nearly as bad as that.

What did the watch look like before you sent it in? For them to basically recommend everything but a movement I am curious to see a before pic.

That's a bad experience. Sorry to hear that. It's very frustrating to have that happen plus you now have to send it back. I hope it gets right this time. Good luck.

I just took my new (to me) y series sub in to be verified and registered in my name. Toronto RSC. They charged me $150 plus tax. After 7 business days, they returned the watch in a clear ziplock bag, and told me the watch would not be guaranteed waterproof. I'm assuming they needed to open it to verify it, and I feel they should have pressure tested it afterward. Am I out of line?

Curtis,
Sorry to hear about your unfortunate disaster! I would be pissed, and might be on a plane (Even though I hate flying) to NY to see them in person........

Dallas RSC is the best.. But if you have issues with a newer model they will ask you to send it to NY where they take care of newer models sometimes.

I never had an issue with RSC in NYC for over 20+ years of service. Not sure what the caseframe is (a new body with the same serial number???) They should make it right. Mine have always come back so good actually that I thought they just gave me a new watch. Honestly. I wish you the best.

I'm sorry to hear that but....
I had a sub that I wore everyday for over 23 years and I mean to do everything (Until it was stolen)
During that time I had the watch serviced twice....... At the time it was stolen, it still had the original, case, crystal, bracelet, hands and dial.....In fact, other then a movement service and new crown and tube, nothing else was ever needed..... I can't help but wonder: What did you do to your watch to have it need THAT much repair work???? |

This watch was my fathers'. He bought it new in 1989. Unfortunately, he was killed in a horrific automobile accident. The watch basically ripped his hand and part of his arm off. The watch survived the accident remarkably well. In fact, it kept perfect time, even though the date would not change, and the gears felt like they had salt in them when setting the time. This attests to the superior build quality of a Rolex watch. In my opinion, the case itself was not damaged enough to warrant purchasing a new case frame. Like an oyster, it still held out dust and water. I feel that although I opted out of buying a new case frame (I do not have a lot of money), my watch case should have been polished and returned to it's original luster. The service work they did on the movement is superb. The watch is operating well within COSC specification.
