30+ year old women's DJ

Hey all, quick poll here. I just took my mother's 30+ year old DJ in for a full service and overhaul. It was her mother's before that, and I'm certain neither of them had it serviced (ever). The bracelet is very loose and the watch is clearly a relic in appearance. It's so worn, in fact, that I'm certain a polishing will just give the watch a "melted" appearance (every original detail now smooth and boring).

I think i'm going to just have everything replaced to really give the watch a new life. New crystal, face, hands, bezel, case and bracelet. What do you think?

P.S. sorry for not posting before pics, but i'll be sure to post "after" ones.

I think that would be a great idea: especially if you have someone to pass it down to that is interested in wearing it!

Well yes, that is the other factor, I am likey to inherit this watch. Nonetheless though, even if I wasn't, I still would want to have it all replaced. The only sad thing is the exterior will no longer be original and it has sentimental value to my mother.

True, but the heart of it will be the same (the movement). You can always defer the case replacement until a later time if it has marks that bring back memories to your mom.

The only thing left will be the movement; and that might be replaced too very soon!

I would suggest you keep everything that is still functional. I know you said it looks "melted" but that might just be a generous patina.

How about buying your mother a new Rolex?
