Newbie to TRF

Hey everyone!

Well, after a long time lurking the forums and looking around, I finally stopped into a Rolex AD today and got to look at a few up close and personal, and now I want one. REALLY bad! The 3 that I'm looking at are the Sea Dweller, Submariner, and GMT IIc. I like the SD because It's built like a tank, fairly unique, and it doesn't have the cyclops over the date (not a big fan of that). The Sub is great, but it seems like there are a bunch of them around. Any thoughts on these 3? I know I've still got a lot of learning to do!

Cheers!

Welcome to TRF..

Any of those is a great choice... I see way more of the new GMT ceramics than I do of the Sub or the SD.

Welcome to TRF.
You were talking about DSSD, right? It is a monster, very very thick, and we have a lot of its fan here. IMHO I think SS GMT2c is one of the most beautiful modern Rolex.

I got to see a DSSD yesterday up close, and loved it. Like I said before, built like a tank. I know they're becoming more collectible, but I don't really have $9K to spend just yet!

For a first Rolex watch... I'd go for the GMT-II-C...

But try and pay less than $5,800...net...

What makes you say they are becoming collectible? You can get them NIB on the gray market for right about 7K, it is a current production watch so it's not rare and in this market no Rolex is hard to get so I am curious how you consider it collectible?

Welcome to TRF Matthew

Being new to Rolex you will feel that you must purchase from an Authorized Dealer; and it is very good to build a relationship with a local Rolex AD.

However, AD's have around 40% profit margin - expenses in each Rolex, and usually a fairly strict no to low discount policy.

There are some fantastic sellers here on TRF that can get you BNIB Rolex at HUGE savings. I strongly suggest you at the very least talk to them before your purchase.

Anastasios, TEMPOKING, is one of the best; I have bought from Stasios in the past and would not be afraid to wire him $20K, he is indeed an honorable man.

If it were me, I'd go for a 16600 Sea Dweller or a 16610LV anniversary Submariner. I like the new GMT IIc, but I have the older GMT II Coke and I really appreciate some of the older models.

If you are a BIG guy I'd say go with the DSSD, but get a discount. I paid full pop before the price increase, but I did get one of the first four in the BB system. I did not know at the time they would eventually be "everywhere." I do not regret getting the DSSD, I love that watch, I just wish I had paid $7K instead of $8900.

Hope this helps.
