FS: 18k YG Vintage Omega ref. 14902 Constellation w/ORIGINAL Pie-Pan Dial

Up for sale is this classic early-1960s Omega Constellation Calendar with wonderful original gold onyx-marker Pie-Pan dial in overall Excellent condition. Reference 14902 was only produced for a few years in the early 1960s and not very frequently in 18k solid gold. This example dates from 1962 and has that wonderful warm patina that only old gold seems to have. In fine working order, this great vintage Omega dress watch is ready to adorn the wrist of the discriminating gentleman for any elegant occasion.

The price for this classic 18k Omega dress Chronometer is $2,700 USD OBRO by Paypal ($2,600 by Paypal eCheck or Bank Wire) including fully insured worldwide shipping. Payment must be made in US DOLLARS. Watch will ship upon full clearance of the funds, as well as any necessary bank vetting.

CASE: Classic “Grasshopper” lug case in solid 18k yellow gold measures an elegant 34.2mm. There are some minor scuffs and scratches to the sides, lugs and the smooth bezel and while the edges appear to have been slightly smoothed with the passing of the years, I do not believe this watch has ever been polished. Of course, it is properly hallmarked for gold beneath the lower right lug. By my strict standards, I rate this case as easily Excellent for a gold watch over 45 years old.

CASEBACK: The solid 18k outer caseback has some tool marks/scratches. However, the famous Observatory logo is extremely crisp, remarkably so in fact. The inner caseback is perfectly clean and has all correct hallmarks for the model and for 18k gold. Conservatively, I rate the external caseback as Very Good cosmetic condition.

DIAL & HANDS: Gorgeously patinaed non-luminous gold Pie-Pan dial with hand-riveted gold bar hour markers and onyx inlays. There is some oxidation/aging to the top coat of lacquer but all factory original print and is crisp and the applied OMEGA, star logo and date window frame are bright and clean. The date disc itself has either devolped a sort of pinkish patina over time or is from a PG model--hard to say for sure but it is quite attractive regardless. Overall, the dial is in Excellent original condition with a lovely warm patina that is greatly preferable to a re-dial, IMHO. Original Gold Dauphine hands and baton sweep seconds are Very Good with some light oxidation and signs of wear and the minute hand missing its black fill.

CROWN: Signed Omega gunrled gold hermetic winding crown (Early version? Service replacement for a faceted crown? The debate rages on...) is Excellent with some cosmetic wear. The crown winds and pulls out to the time-setting position as it should.

CRYSTAL: Older low-domed armored hesalite crystal in Good condition with some crazing and accumulated scratches. It is correctly signed with the Omega symbol in the center, although this is quite faint and difficult to make out without a loupe.

MOVEMENT: Legendary Omega cal. 561 24-jewel chronometer-rated automatic calendar movement (semi-quickset date, to my edification) looking very clean indeed. The 19 million movement SN indicates ca. 1962 production, perfectly matching the inner caseback date stamp. I do not know the service history of this watch and so cannot guarantee that it will not need service in future. However, I will attest that this great cal. 561 is running & winding well with a strong power reserve and keeping good time with correct date function at the time of its shipment.

BAND & BUCKLE: This wonderful Gold Connie comes on used brown Hadley Roma Italian calfskin strap with Corc pattern that is just past the break in phase, Very Good used condition overall and really goes well with the watch. Also accompanying this Connie is a period correct genuine signed Omega buckle; I thinK it’s solid gold but I have not had it tested and so am not 100% sure. It really looks like gold though, as it does not show any signs of the usual tarnish found on plaque buckles and the general texture and tone do not seem like plating to me.

I make NO guarantees for the water resistance of this watch in any way, shape or form due to its age and the dodgy water resistance of most vintage dress watches in general.

This great Vintage Omega is offered with a 3-day inspection period from the date of receipt and may be returned for a full refund less any shipping costs incurred by the buyer. This refund is unconditional and once I get the watch back in exactly the same condition as it was sent to you, your money will be refunded. Of course, once the 3 days are over the sale will be considered FINAL.

Thanks for looking,
T.
