Best Band Ever....
Ok I mean music band. Not sure if it has been done here before, but wanted to see what you guys thought. What is the best band and why do you think so?
For me, it is U2. From the moment I heard them the first time. Why? Because, besides their music having so much meaning. They are so diverse. They have recorded songs with such open array of artist. From Johnny Cash to BB King to Green Day and Frank Sinatra. I mean, who else has done this? Even Pavoratti!!!! And all their songs have meaning much like Bob Dylan. So lets hear it.... DSC01588.jpg

LED ZEPPELIN! my Tshirt (copies are white print)
from shortest Led Zep concert in history. Played only two songs before the rains disrupted the show. Tampa in summer of '77 |

OK, we got the obvious ones out of the way. The Beatles, Led Zepplin, The Stones and lets not forget Pink Floyd. All Gods of music. But, to me, U2 encompasses the best of these bands.
but thats just MY opinion. Keep them coming!

For me it would be the Beyond - one of the most influential Chinese bands. I grew up with them and always wondered how big they would be today if their lead (Wong Ka Kui) hadn't pass away in a freak accident. (RIP)

The Stones - best rock entertainers Pink Floyd - out of this world Led Seep - best rock musicians in same group (especially live) U2 - pedestrian and sometimes flavor of the month. Still good. |

I wouldn't like to say.... I mean The Eagles are ok, then look at the likes of the Bee Gees and the amount of hits they had and wrote for other artists. ACDC might be up there for me, but then Queen weren't that bad either.

While U2 deserves more credit than being called the flavor of the month/pedestrian, I think U2 was at their best when they were young, Ireland was in turmoil, and they had something to be really mad about. I haven't seen them live since 1988 (I had 4th row seats for the Joshua Tree tour) and I refuse to sully my memory of that by seeing them again. I refused free tickets to their latest show a couple of months ago... Radiohead gets my vote. |

Dude, you echo most of my friends. Give their How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb a chance. There is a song there about Bono's father called Can't Make it On Your Own.
Here in Miami, he played that songs shortly after his father's death. He did an extended version. I had front row seats, as you can see from my pictures, and he sang the ENTIRE song with his eyes closed. All you can see were tears coming from his eyes. I got chills and many people around me started crying as well. Listen to that song and Crumbs from your table.

I like the Gorillaz. Serious.
I have all their songs and their concert from Harlem. I'm a huge fan. Its the only group that I NEVER tire of. I know that there is no one best band but to me the Gorillaz are it. |

But seriously Pep, can we even rank these bands,
or is it just a spitball fight? We get moved by music for so many different reasons. |

You are absolutely right, music moves us for different reasons. Just trying to have a friendly debate. Nothing more. Ranking is based on preference. Just wanted to see what others thought. I hate those count downs. So subjective that you can't really rank. I just see U2 get such a bad rap. Yes Bono is preachy and yes they totally changed their sound in the early 90s. But pedestrian? I guess I'm a little defensive when it comes to U2 because I am moved by them more than any other band.

for me & imho - it has to be the original line up of Guns 'n Roses.
sort of growing up on their songs and still loving it today. Went to Axl's new line up concert in 07, it was amazing even though the mosh pit was abit 'messy' for my liking. maybe they will tour again in about 15 years time...... |
