Love the 312, except when I look at it from a side angle. From the pictures, I was dead set on getting one up until I tried one on. I much prefer the completely polished look of the 112 over the polished bezel + brushed case combo.

I agree...the DSSD. I will say, I have had my GMT since 1985 and love it more everyday and will never sell it but that DSSD....dude I love it! Its the only watch that has truly moved me in 25 years. I don`t know what it is...it just over the top.

Definitely the Panerai 312. And not because I own it but because I dislike the DSSD. The dial is too busy and not in the pleasing way like the Daytona. 7 lines of useless text is unacceptable.
That particular Panerai is just gorgeous.

You've got the time and date. That's all you need on a wristwatch.

I love Rolex in general, but the DSSD is a "miss" to me for the following:

-busy dial - way too much superfluous text
-tiny dial - compared to the rest of the watch
-tapering bracelet - just doesn't match the watch proportionately
-way too thick - we get it - it's capable to 12,000+ FT, but not so capable at 0FT due to it's massive and nearly unwearable thickness.

Having said all these negative things about it, I still want one

Well I went to the AD to buy the DSSD but since it was completely unwearable (to tall and unbalanced for me

) I got the Milgauss GV instead.
The 312 is another story... it's bigger but it was true love at first sight

Both great watches but the 312 get my vote because I think that unless you're going diving, it's a more versatile watch as, despite its size it can be dressed up with an alligator strap under a suit or dressed down with an ammo strap for weekends. The DSSD, however, is a great sports watch but loses out for more formal wear IMHO.
