From the technical standpoint, the PAM90 has Valjoux calibre which is considered as a being mechanically "better". 3k sounds like a good price if indeed its the real deal.

Is the first time I thought about getting a Panerai watch, how can I tell if the watch is indeed authentic or where should I take the watch to in order to prove it is authentic?

No Box No Papers I would not pay more than 2k, lack of complete watch reduces its value by 20-30% generally.

Authenticate it first, then if the watch is what you want buy it! 3k is a good deal. Unless your a trader or a seller papers are not that important. If this is gonna be a watch you keep long term who cares!!

Hi M603,I would jump on it if it's a REAL deal! But seriously i find it hard to believe if someone can misplaced/lost such a big box. If i ever come across one that don't c/w any paper or box i will wanna my watch maker or the RSC to authenticate it for me before i handover the $$. Even it's a deal from my friend or relative....

I really appreciate all the good advise you guys provided me. I'll definitely have a RSC authenticate it first and if it is indeed authentic, I will be posting pictures next week!

Happy New Year!!! Wish everyone to have a good and healthy 2010!

I doubt RSC will authenticate a PAM...Just find a Panerai AD near you and they can tell you if its legit, or if you have access to it, since it is your friends and all...take some detailed photos, up close of dial and back from different angles and post here on the forum, I am sure the collective knowledge here can help you out quite a bit.

RSC (Richemont service centre) just authenticated my PAM24,87 are all original. As for ADs,i don't know in the US. But here i doubt they know how to authenticate the original parts for the original serial. (many old/discontinued pams have parts replaced,eg original tritium dial to luminova dial hands bezel etc) So besides authenticating they(RSC) are also able to verify all parts are original to the serial.

PS. You never know if the straps/hands/dial/deployant buckle has been swapped, remember the fakes are getting better by the day..so my best bet is the RSC(Richemont service centre).

here is the Panerai that I was talking about... let me know if it worth 3k without box and papers. The watch is a D serie.

Diamond dial on a panerai? I'm no expert but that seems VERY odd. I would pass for that reason alone.

I'm guessing it's fake due to the diamond dial. I would also guess that the diamond dial actually devalues the watch as well. I would stay away. Aftermarket anything (other than straps) on a PAM = NO BUENO!

At best it's been mod'd and at worst a fake. Either way from a value perspective there's not much between the two options from a value perspective. Personally I'd go with the advice from the previous posters and avoid.
