Question about Tritium Dial Subs?

Hey guys,

Im interested in eventually picking up a No Date Sub, but am really liking the idea of picking up a Tritium Dial version. I really like the Patina that they pick up over the years and the character that they add to the watch and was wondering if you all could point me in the right direction.

1-At what point did they stop producing the Titium Dial subs with the Plexi Crystals?

2-At what point did they stop Producing the Tritium Dial subs with the Sapphire Crystals?

3-Is there anywhere I could find the model numbers that correlates to this information?

Thanks in Advance!!

Cheers,

Mike

As a general rule the switch to luminova occured around 1998-99ish.

As you mention the Submariner, the 5513 made the change to a gloss dial with WG surrounds around 84-85ish (appropriate crossover-nothing with Rolex is set in stone). The 5513 was replaced with the 14060 around 89-90ish.

Same can be said for the Sub date (reference 16800) except it always had a sapphire crystal (among other things).

Good luck and it'll certainly be worth the hunt.
