Omega or Breitling?

Sorry to rehash an old debate, but when I was at my local Rolex AD looking at their watches I asked if they carried Omega's and he said no. Reason is that it was a lower line of watches. I was VERY surprised to hear that, of course he sold Breitlings, Rolex, Cartier, Patek etc...

I always thought that Omegas are one step above Breitlings?

That is just not true and sounds to me like this person simply wanted to sell you "something", anything, as long as they had it to sell. Breitling makes a great product, Omega makes a great product. I originally looked at the Breitling SuperOcean and the Omega Planet Ocean and chose the Omega. I ignored all the depth rating stuff you see because, frankly, if I am down anywhere near those depths I have bigger problems than worrying about my watch. I liked the look of both. The Breitling seemed to be a tad heavier, sat a little higher, with more of a blingy shine than the Omega. The one thing that made me choose Omega was the movement, guts, or engine of the watch. Breitling does use a workhorse of a movement provided by ETA as well as Omega. The difference lies in the Co-Axial movement which is "supposed" to be more advanced. Time will tell. In addition, although I believe Rolex and Seiko are the only ones to manufacture "in house" movements. The Swatch Group (I think that is what they are called) owns ETA as well as Omega so I look at Omega as an "in the family" movement. Whichever you choose I doubt you will be unhappy with. Good luck and I hope all my information is accurate, I am going by memory.

I think they are the about the same. I like Breitling's aviation theme. Just a personal thing.

They are all quality watches - that is why I have all three brands - Breitling, Omega and Rolex.

I even have a Seiko, it's helluva tough watch.

O! I am in the same debate between Omega SeaMaster Pro, or the Breitling (forgot the model)

they did have a Breitling one with the homing beacon and a huge black plastic box with a signal tester...awesome marketing - but not worth over $6k unless i flew/sail a lot. but the coolness factor was high

Both are great makes. I'd gladly trade my Breitling Chronomat Evo for a Planet Ocean Chrono.

That said, I don't know both product line ups extensively, but I think the Omega 'ding' might be that they do sell a couple of less expensive quartz models. Also, although things are changing now, their dealer network used to be of a slightly lower caliber than Rolex/Breitling et al.

A couple of years ago, it wasn't unusual to find a dealer who carried Omega as their flagship line alongside the lower end Tags, Movado, etc. It's only recently that Omega has started revising their AD line up to focus on more 'prestigious' dealers.

i have an omega PO XL and a breitling sklyland pvd.
love them both.

the breitlings are generally much larger and heavier - which sometimes I am in the mood for. They also seem to stand out more. - a little more flashy.

but I have to admit - I wear the PO far more then the skyland - based on comfort.

i don't have any expensive quartz watches - but if I did, it would be a bretiling super-quartz - hands down!

Exactly A salesman will say anything, even stupid like this to try and sound intelligent and make a sale. Personally at the moment I prefer Omega, but I will definitely consider a Breitling in the future for sure

Omega and Breitling both make excellent watches. That was simply bad information.

I think you get more "value" with buying a Breitling, cause the price is usually more reasonable for a breitling.
I had nearly all kind of Rolex in the past 20 Years, and last month i found the superocean steelfish 2000mtr, a nearly perfect watch. !

Stupid. Stupid. You never know why the person is asking. Maybe they want to see what you have to say. Essentially, that sales person called you stupid or otherwise tried to be arrogant and succeeded.

Breitling is, across the board, more expensive than Omega...but I don't think there is any quality difference between Breitling or Omega (or Rolex for that matter).

I own both, I am partial to the Breitling, but as said they are both good quality, it is just personal preference.

for anything else, i would go with omega

I think this is probably true given my observations. Another thing is that Omega is a "secondary" market in the U.S. relative to its competition. Omega devotes much less of its advertising/marketing resources --as compared to Breitling--to this area of the world. As such, that might be why your AD had this perception. Omega is MUCH bigger in Asia, for example.

Omega are in the same league as Breitling.

Like audi rs4 and bmw m3.... you can't go wrong going either way.... honestly... choosing which one depends on taste... if you have no taste then toss a coin

If I have to choose Omega seamaster or Breitling superocean I go for Breitling as omega is a bit common.... again it's just me

I prefer Omega. Most Breitlings are too busy in the dial.
