Does this price sound fair to you? - D Serial # ladies DJ

Please let me know how you think this sounds if you would:

SS ladies DJ (26mm)

D serial Number (December 2005 on the papers)

White Gold Bezel

Oyster bracelet

Diamond Jubilee (computer face) dial - stock rolex diamond dial but not the dial that came in the watch from the factory

Box and Papers (local purchase in my area)

All hang tags

Just had full service including PCL and 4 corners polished (not a mark on it)

They want $4000

What do you think?

TIA
Aaron

That's high! Even with the diamond dial. You can get a D serial men's ss DJ for less than $2500 without even trying. Well, you might have to try a little...

I think that the price is way too high for a used Ladies DJ...

What's a fair offer for me to make? $3500? Less?

$3000.00 if they have proof of RECENT servicing would not be out of line.

I tried hard, but couldn't get them below $3800.

It is everything I am looking for and I just couldn't find what I wanted anywhere near the 3k range so I bought it.

Recent full service proof was provided and its absolutely spotless.

Her B day is on Jan 28th so now the wait begins.

Here's a few pics:

Are you sure, guys?

Here's a recent ad from very trusted TRF seller for kinda the same watch (white instead of black jubilee diamond dial, super jubilee instead of oyster bracelet, factory vs non-factory dial):
http://www.rolexforums.com/showthread.php?t=110362

OK, so it's not quite the same watch but very close.

To the OP, be sure you "buy the seller, not the watch". Those pics are pretty crappy, usually a bad sign.

and the "Your Rolex Oyster" is not correct for that watch. It is an older booklet that would be correct for the box set, which also does not belong to that watch. I hope you can get your money back.

That is an even worse deal IMHO. I saw several 116200 DJ go on Ebay for $3100 within the last month.

First you ask the TRF folks if it is a deal.

Then after all the posts you buy it.

What is the reason for asking TRF when you paid for it.

TRF gave you some Red flags about the price and the items.

We have sellers on TRF who can give you what you want all you have to do is some leg work.

I was just referencing an ad coming from one of the most reputable sellers on TRF. Are you saying LawrenceB is way off in his pricing on a diamond dial'd DJ? In general I think his pricing is usually fair. Btw, Ebay is a great source for pricing... not!!

I always use Ebay as a starting point for pricing...

Without a better picture I'd be worried about that dial too. You came here for advice and then didn't listen. If it was mine I'd return it and get a watch that's not pieced together. Now, of all economic times, is not the time to be overpaying for a frankenwatch with incorrect box and paperwork. Too many good deals out there to be had elsewhere.

I don't think $3800 is a terrible deal, given that it just had a full service. And the box doesn't mean it's fake. It's very possible that an AD sold the watch with a box he had in stock--they don't come from the factory in boxes, it's the AD's job to put the watch in a box.

Also, I think the OP took those pics himself.

Well, if the OP could take close-ups and post. From several angles, etc.

Thanks for the info guys. I certainly didn't intend to anger anyone with my purchase and I greatly appreciate all of the advice and guidance that I have been getting from TRF. After reading these posts I'm not feeling as great about the transaction, but want to give you the rest of the story.

A little more info on the watch and deal:

I do believe that buying the seller is important. I asked for advice here on TRF and was lead by many satisfied buyers to Howard Frum Jewelers in Chicago off Wabash and Monroe where this purchase took place face to face in the store.

I was very happy with the way I was treated and the knowledge everyone had in his store. There were an easy 350+ Rolexes in stock and he carefully walked me through models/changes/year/features/etc.

I had been looking at a few other places and decided I really wanted to get her a SS ladies DJ with a white gold fluted bezel, oyster bracelet and a Jubilee diamond face (that I now know the real name of thanks to your help here) but just could not find the combo anywhere other than new for anything under about $4500 unless I looked at much older watches.

Upon looking at everything he had to offer there was nothing that was a match, but he did have the exact watch I was looking for with a pink arabic dial. It has the matching serial number to the paper. He also had cases of dials including many jubilee diamond dials that were exactly what I wanted which they offered to swap out for me, the rest of the watch was as it came from Rolex. After looking into price and knowing they had to go into the watch anyhow, we agreed on everything at which point they replaced the dial and performed the service on the watch for me. In addition I had him polish the 4 corners and the center links as part of the deal like I discussed when first pricing it out.

The original date of sale shows as 2005 on the paper. As far as the box and pamphlets not being correct, I will call them in the morning to see what happened. My guess is that they got switched around with all the boxes he must have in there. I did ask to make sure I got a box in perfect condition so that may have been a factor, I'm not sure.

As for the bad pics, I took them. I can't seem to get a decent pic of this face to save my life (flash or not). I'm on the road this week until Friday but will try again when I get home.

Thanks again for your time and opinions on my situation.

Aaron
