So there was customs charges on the SD according to Canada Post. The amount was $106.00 which is fine by me!

Hey JJ,

Reasonable, indeed! I was cringing when the post office was about to blurt out the amount.

The declared value was $600, and described as clock parts.

Ah that would explain that then! They must not have actually opened the box and checked the contents as your "clock parts" would have looked a lot like an SD! That method worked out prety good for you, Nice job!

I still like my mail service just over the border, drive over, pay $5 to pick it up, wear the watch back over the borer and then either ship yourself the empty box/papers or smuggle it over if you want to risk it... just DON'T GET CAUGHT!

Its a risk that I took. With the declared and insured value of $600, if it got stolen or damaged, I'll only get $600 back.

However, I find that USPS is very reliable hence I took the chance.

Did you get dinged for duties on your 13K purchase?

It's not a matter of "dinged," it is not a traffic tickets where I did wrong, it is a tax. I travel on a red passport and that should exempt me. I will let you know next week.

Yup, it comprises of customs duties, goods and services taxes, provincial taxes and handling fee.

However since it is for the SD, its very doable.
