Topics?????

Grail Watch? When did the Submariner all of a sudden become so popular? Back in 1997, we used to go to chat rooms or message boards to stictly talk about Datejust and Presidents. Sub were mentioned and SD were mentioned but the mainstream was LapisLazuli colored dials and all onyx dials. I mean by todays standards 40mm is small. I know this is open forum so lets talk freely

Don't know if it's all that sudden, mikey. I first boarded the Rolex Express in 2000, and back then Subs were already much more the quintessential Rolex than the DJ or DD.

Besides, looking at the direction in which Herr Wilsdorf always took the company, it would make more sense that the tool watches are in the limelight. After all, the branding was built on things like the development of the Oyster case and the automatic movement, as well as Mercedes Glietz's famous dip in the pool, so it makes perfect sense that the focus is placed on Rolexes that are deigned to be taken out there and used.

You have to keep in mind what a small sampling this forum is for any brand of watch, including Rolex.

I also think the popularity on the boards goes in waves, sometimes it is GMT's others Subs/SD and others DJ/DD's.

Then you throw in Pannies and the others and the sampling gets even smaller.
