Congrats, Pete! Welcome to the light!!!

I have been an Apple devotee since 1980, and currently own a Dual Processor G5 Tower with 23" monitor, an ibook laptop, my wife has a G4 ibook, and my work machines are a PowerBook G4 laptop and a Gateway laptop (because I HAVE to have it).

We also have four iPods between the two of us, and if I hadn't just upgraded them to the newer models and gotten a new Red RAZR with a new carrier, I would get the new iPhone as soon as it comes out as well.

Cheers!!!

Congratulations and welcome to Macdom! I've been a Mac user since the original Mac (yes that's 1984). I have an iBook (circa 2001), a MacBook Pro, and a G5 iMac with 20" screen and built in iSight. I also have 2 iPods (Nano, and 4th Generation). I also just ordered the new Airport Extreme (the brand new one). I will also be getting the iPhone. So all in all, I drank the Apple Koolaid. I swear by Macs, and will never go back.

I have had PCs since 1984 when they cost a fortune. My first laptop was a Radio Shack Model 100, 8 lines of LCD type, 8k of memory. I got a mac over Christmas, have yet to open the box (because it is in Tampa).

Maybe the mac experts can post good software and stuff that we need to know, or at least good websites to visit for more info?

Feel free to ask any questions. Anything at all. I use, for the most part, all the software that came with the Mac (Mail.app, iCal - calendar program, iTunes, iPhoto, iChat - Aim Client, and GarageBand). I have downloaded Mozilla Firefox, bought Toast Titanium (a CD/DVD burning program).
I also have Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

What will you be using it for beyond these things?

Congrats Pete. I'm not a Mac fan but my brother is. He has a Powerbook, but not sure what version.

I've been a PC fan for the longest time, its just that I'm comfortable with it. Maybe I'll try those new G series with the Intel procs

Hmmm... I've never played with that on GarageBand.

Try going to the menu 'Control' and Show the Loops. Then select people and the laughter track you are looking for. Then just drag this to the area where you want the laughter (don't create a new track for it, just drag it below the tracks listed).
If you need more help, I can post some screen shots.
