Basically The DJ has not changed since the late 80s and then only purely cosmetically, pity prices did not stay the same too.And in-fact changed very little over the past 40 years,as could be said for many of the Rolex models today,if it aint broke why fix it .

Hi,
The lugs are slightly wider making it wear somewhat larger on the wrist. This, coupled with a heavier bracelet gives the watch a more substantial feel.

so lets say between a 96 model and a 2006 model, only having no lug holes and a heavier bracelet differs? and of course the price

I believe the movement has been tweeked a bit. And the case has been re-cast to the heftier style. And there are more choices in dials. And the bracelet configuration...but that's really new within the past couple of years, just like the case.

But, with a routine service, you'd be hard pressed to tell the difference in the timekeeping from a 10 year old model to a new one. In fact, a 20 year old DJ with proper servicing and adjustment will also keep excellent time.

Are you thinking of buying pre-owned rather than new? Are you trying to figure out whether or not to flip your older model for a new one? Are you just sort of window shopping?

I posted a thread a couple days ago asking which was a better choice, a SS sub or a late 90's DJ for a graduation present. I'm kinda leaning towards the DJ, so I was just curious on the differences between a late 90's and more recent models. Since the only difference I knew about were the ones with lug holes which was pre 1995 and the ones w/o which are 96 to present

My wife and I purchased our very first Rolex TT DJs in October 1980. I distinctly remember that both models did have the lug holes.
