I'm struggling!

Recently I decided on the GMTIIc. Beautiful watch, considering the TT jubilee bracelet, etc. etc. I've got great people looking (Thanks Steve M)!

Yesterday running around with the lovely bride, we checked out some Subs and there was a 16613K. She loved it - as did I. (That's where the problem started)

I wasn't able to do a side-by-side comparison but now I'm vacillating!

Subs are ubiquitous (I see them everywhere); GMTIIc I don't see everywhere.

Subs are cheaper (but not by THAT much) IMO.

Back and forth, back and forth - no wonder I have a headache!

I'd appreciate any and all comments - thanks.

I have both. If you travel or want to keep track of another time zone there isn't any question that the GMT IIc is the winner. You can also use the bezel as a timer if a minute or two isn't important.

The sub is lighter and to my eye less busy. It is easier to use the bezel for a timer.

If I had to choose one I'd go with the GMT IIc. I wish I had it when my son-in-law was in Iraq. I always wondered what time it was there!

You are comparing the discontinued TT Sub with the latest ceramic GMT..

Why not compare the latest TT ceramic Sub with the GMT ???


Although I like the older GMT, the new one and it's overall look I think falls off and is too much bling.

I would take the TT Black Sub, every time...

I travel and the GMT suits me well, I also love the looks of the GMT IIc. I don't know how important the new upgrades from Rolex are for you but they are updating the Submariner next yr....IMHO, I believe Rolex hit a homerun with the new updates on the GMT IIc and Submariner Ceramic due out in 2010.

What matters is what you like seeing on YOUR wrist. My first Rolex purchase was a Y-Series Sub Date. Pretty common watch...but man, do I love looking at it on MY wrist!

I see you are in Tampa, where I understand Rolexes are EVERYWHERE so I do see some of your point...

The TT ceramic Sub is out now...with the killer glidelock clasp..

I think that the TT Black ceramic Sub is head and shoulders above the TT GMT IIc.

The GMT IIc does not have a glidelock clasp.. They are only on the new ceramic Subs and Deep Sea..

Larry makes a valid point re: the new clasp...but I'd still go with the GMT.

I think the Submariner is less busy and more understated. Also, if you scuba dive, it is a great watch to back up your dive computer, and it's much less likely to fail on a dive. Of course, I'm biased....

My diving days are over! Grew up in Miami and Key West. I now "dive" a desk on a college campus here in Tampa.

It's only Apples and Oranges if you KNOW THE DIFFERENCE between Apples and Oranges. As a newbie searching for his first Rolex, I'm still leaning towards the GMTII with or without the new bracelet on the Submariner. I just think it stands out MORE and as many of you have stated, it's what I want that matters. With a budget of 5K(ish) I'm leaning towards the GMT.

Rolex has "redesigned" GMT IIc, it has much smoother dial. Bigger markers, different bracelet. So I'll say no comparison, new one looks so amazing but comes with big bucks :)

i had same problem, i decided between GMT Master II TT and Submariner TT the new model with bigger lugs - price almost same. I chose the GMT, because I think i will use the second timezone sometimes and I prefere the 24h bezel before the submariner diving bezel. Jan

ive got the black tt sub and love it. the gmtc TT black would be my 2nd choice. the sub is less bling imo, and being smaller and lighter, will be more confortable to wear. suits my smaller wrist too!



anyone else notice the sub in the 1st post, the date is at 22, yet it looks like a rolex stock photo??

Already having had a Coke GMT II...I went with the TT Sub Ceramic as a new addition....so it isn't the same situation...to make a choice from...

But I'm not real fond of the 4th hand....the less busy look is preferable to me now...

I'll tell you what I can guarantee you though....either one you choose is going to look SWEET on that wrist of yours!!!

+1. However, if the comparison was between the TT Sub Ceramic and the TT GMT IIC, then they're close. But I'd still get the GMT, since it's less ubiquitous, and I prefer busier dials and busier bezels.

The only reason I don't like the new TT GMT's and black dialed Submariner is the white font. See how pretty the font looks on Steve's 16713? What's interesting is that the blue dial 116613 has gold font, whereas the black dial has white font. Both now have the white date wheel - I prefer the linen. I also prefer the older lug style, but would love to have the newer bracelet!

It's a tough call, Steve, but I agree with Larry. I'd take a look at the new TT Sub and compare that with the TT GMT. I have to say, though, given the choices you presented us with, I'd go with the GMT. JJ alone has really sold me on this watch. For me, the Submariner is always better served in its SS form.

Oh, and hate to nit pick, but I don't believe the II-c was ever available with the jubilee. Although it would be nice
