A colleague at work just showed me a fake 16610. Looks very good. Not being an expert, I couldn't really tell it was a fake. Possibly teh cyclopse is under magnified, but other than that, to this untrained eye, it looked real. He volunteered that it was fake, given to him by his father in law, who bought it in HK. He never wears watches, and is using it to practice to see if he can wear it for a while without beating the crap out of it. If he can, he'll look to get a real one. My biggest problem with him was that he saw mine and immediately thought it was fake, since his was. That, to me, is offensive. Not because I wanted attention for wearing an expensive watch, but because I am offended that someone would think I would buy a cheap watch in order to impress anyone. That, and, it's, ya know, illegal and all.

One other thing. My bro-in-law gave me a gag gift for xmas this year - a horrible folex he bought in Kuwait years ago. I brought it into work and it sits on a file cabinet in my office. Wonder how long it'll stay there?

Where's the integrity?

I am new to this forum, and I am also a new ROLEX owner. I am very proud to own a ROLEX, and I think that anyone trying to pass off a fake watch for a genuine ROLEX is pathetic. I think the whole "knock-off" market is a disgrace. I have bought my wife two Louis Vuitton handbags over the past three years, and there are few things worse than seeing anyone from a fourteen year old girl wearing a justin timberlake shirt to a middle aged, over-tanned 1980's glamour shot looking woman carrying a FAKE $2000.00 purse that they bought for twenty bucks.

In my opinion, and I hope I do not offend anyone with my first post, wearing a fake, low quality, imitation ROLEX says a lot about your character. It says that you yourself are a fake, and inconsiderate of those of us who respect and enjoy the real thing. It says that you lack integrity, and that you lack respect for a very prestigious company with a great history.

But that's just my opinion.

I thought someone would bring up a different topic because I don't like talking about fake anythings. We all had our experiences and worked hard to buy the real Rolex.

What's with the defensiveness, dude?

Besides, after your comments on driving a Civic while wearing a Daytona, it's surprising that you should now be justifying the purchase of fakes.

I admit to having several copy watches. I have a copy of all my genuines (except for my Oris flight timer and my Maurice Lecroix Lune Retrograde). My copies sit in a case on my dresser. I figure if my home gets robbed, they'll take what they think are my watches but my genuine articles will be safe in the hidden safe.

Ha ha... well... what your friend thinks of you tend to have a direct relationship to what you have been showing them.. right

When my friend first saw me with my sub date, their first question was wah! real or fake?... the reason, i have always been telling them that watches is a waste of money.... and stuff.. coupled with the fact that i have never worn a watch for the last 31 years

Well Henry, if you're going to start wearing watches, you may as well do it in style.

Hey, you mean Mayon volcano or Mt Pinatubo?

I lived in Manila for a number of years.

Thats exactly right. To some people a car is simple a device that gets them from A to B.... whereas a fine timepiece is something they wear every day, look at every day and get personal satisfaction from. Something that can be an heirloom.

An expensive car is something altogether different IMHO

ha ha.. true... but like i mentioned before... i don't measure success by comparison... i couldn't care less if people thinks i'm wearing fakes... If i want to show off, i would buy a panerai... with a 44mm face... hard for anyone to miss that size... or i would buy another 330i.... hahahha.... you know how some chicks in singapore are suddenly attracted to you when you drive a flashy car

If i can live with my wife happily for the next 70 years... i would call that success.... since i'm relatively debt free now...

You know how a little kid plays make-believe? A little boy will walk around saying he is a soldier, a lion tamer, an astronaut or a secret agent. And play accordingly with his friends.

Some people grow up to be those things. Some people change their minds. And some people still play make-believe.

The fake Rolexes are made for the latter group.

Did you? That's funny. I was born there... actually old smokey is neither. Mayon and Pinatubo are both volcanoes. It was a dumping ground towards Paranake(sp?) but as it rose, with more and more garbage dumped, no one did anything about landfilling and moving the site. So, it became a mountain. It got its name from the garbage fires that burn there from time to time. People actually live on the garbage, sorting through it here and there... crazy huh?

When were you there last?

I just wear my Rolex and care less about what others think about me.
Also, I care less about those who wears a fake Rolex for whatever their intentions were.

My apologies to anyone that I may have offended.I always felt that I needed those things that we call the finer things when I was growing up. I would look in mags and see the Air King costing $2,000 and felt that owning a Rolex was attainable if I saved my money. I found out about estate&pawn shops down the road. I always stayed in my school books. As i progressed in college, I was eligible for grants etc..this is how I was able to buy my first DJ for $1050. The rest is history.

I can't see anything you need to apologize for, Mikey...

While I try not to judge people by what they drive, how they dress, where they live, etc... I do have an aversion to fakes and wannabes. The kitted out Toyota MR2 down the street from me with fiberglass fender flares and ground effects and Ferrari badges on it, doesn't fool me (then again, I'm not necessarily a car guy)...

The wrist watches bother me because there is an industry in place that is basically operating outside the law... supporting criminals (... I'm talking about the guys that try and sell em on online / I've heard that the fake rolex $$$ supports terrorists and other illegal organizations but primarily they chip away at truth and integrity).

Holy paranaque! I used to visit a childhood friend there when I was a kid. I lived in Manila for 16 yrs!

I too was born there in Quezon City, Banawe street!

We then moved to Project 8, and outside our compound, the squatters liked to dump their garbage. Since there wasn't any official garbage collection services we just burned our garbage and used the ashes as fertilizer for the plants.

I was there last back in 2000. I'm no longer used to the pollution there.

I lived in Urdaneta Village, Makati, (later called Metro Manila)... the neighborhood was behind the Gilarmi building... (the one with the TOYOTA sign on top of it).

I haven't been back since the late 80's (early 90's ?) originally left there in the 70's...

Yeah, I remember how bad it was getting... the air is like black soot... when you sneeze it's black.

Are they a non-profit organization or a private business that pays out to charitable causes, like yacht race, sportscar races ,etc?
