How cool is this?:
Today I received a package from England that Nancy ordered. It's a very cool original page from the June 6, 1953, The Illustrated London News. It's a Rolex ad, with a blurb about Sir Francis Drake and a pic of his "time machine" which included a circumferentor (whatever the h*ll that is), tide table, nocturnal, and diagram of the planetary aspects. The main blurb of the ad talks about Queen Elizabeth I and II and Rolex Datejust "And recently a Datejust became the 200,000th Rolex watch to receive the proud title "Officially Certified Chronometer".
I guess they've sold a few since then. Sorry, no pix until I scan it. The eBay seller deleted the pix as soon as it was sold. P.S. The back of the page has an ad for Moss Bros. of Convent Gardens, the complete man's store. Anyone know if they're still around?

I have to ask, what on earth were you searching for in order for you to find this gem?
I would frame it as for Moss Bros > I think its these guys http://www.mossbros.co.uk/

I wasn't. Nancy found it and ordered it. I didn't even know about it until it arrived today. Lord knows what she gets up to when she's had a glass of wine and gets onto eBay. Yep, it's going into a frame. Thanks for the link to Moss Bros. I'll bet they'll be surprised to receive a photocopy of their 1953 ad!

Very cool, Alcan.
BTW, a circumferentor is an old surveyor's instrument, and looking at the design it apperas to be a forerunner of the modern prismatic compass.

Nice surprise, Alcan... that's very thoughtful of her...
Also, I think MossBros'd get a kick out of the old advert. Even more so, if you found a headquarters address to send it to...
