Help please!! What should i do???

ok, my 8 month old deep sea never gets any wrist time... i been wanting to flip it for some time.. my Ad has had a sub LV forever.. i asked if they would do an even trade and my guy said for me yes he would.. he also said a rolex rep told him the LV was to be discontinued in the next year.. so it would be a smarter move to have an anniversary sub over any newer styles.. it will be very collectable.. is there any truth to this and what should i do?? should i do the trade or stick with the deepsea and all the little upgrades it has?

thanks!

The Deep Sea has a higher value than a Submariner LV. SO, if you want to flip, sell the DS here, then find a LV here. You will likely end up with the LV and some cash in hand. An even trade at the AD is a "sucker deal," IMO.

Based on what I just looked at in our Classified section, you should be able to get at least $6.5k for your DS, assuming it's in great condition and complete. DavidSW recently offered a BNIB LV for $4,850. So worse case scenario, you should end up ahead $1,650, or service costs. Put that in some interest-bearing account and you should have money for servicing costs for life! Someone like DavidSW may be even willing to do a trade?

Well thats not a good trade IMHO would doubt if the LV will be discontinued and would doubt if it would become really collectible perhaps in 30 or 40 years time maybe.

The LV is just a Sub with green insert and maxi dial..... It may...and I emphasize may, become collectible in a couple of decades. There is no reason to think that it will suddenly become the "one to have" when the Sub goes ceramic...

As for the Deep Sea...it will definitely become collectible... there aren't going to be nearly as many around as there will be Sub (yes, even the green one); so, as a long term speculation, the DSSD is the one to go with..

Now....hanging on to a watch for a couple of decades is not really what most folks want in a watch.. they want instant gratification. If that is your lean.......then, by all means, get the one that you intend to wear....

I think what DSJ said is best. It is not a good even trade, though it is hassle free.

My advice: hold onto it until Baselworld next month, see what transpires.

there is just a feeling inside of me that this is going to be discontinued... i feel like i would be doing the right thing going with an older style sub with the clasp insert dial etc.. they will no longer have any reason to still make them once the new subs come out... i also want the LV new from an ad so i can have the warrenty and everything in my name..

Keep the Deepsea. To me it is a superior watch and will continue to command a higher resale value than an LV. Also, try not to lose sight of the fact that you really should be making this decision based on which watch that you will wear and enjoy more. Let the collectability and resale values take care of themselves - you will never correctly predict them.

Even if the LV is discontinued, they will be in AD's for a year or so. I would also never buy a watch for the reasons you are giving, I buy the watch that I like most and want on my wrist. I can tell you first hand that I had a LV, liked the watch but found the green insert a little much for daily wear.

You can't go wrong with either a Deep Sea or an LV on your wrist. As was pointed out, the Deep Sea is a more expensive Rolex than the LV, so I am not sure an even trade would be to your advantage. That being said, you should go with the Rolex model that makes you happy. Also, as was suggested, you might want to use one of the trusted TRF dealers to buy, sell, trade.

Both great watches. If you don't want the DSSD then sell it, but be smart about it and don't take a huge loss on it trading it straight across on the LV. You CAN get a brand new one here on the forum and get the warranty still in your name and save yourself a chunk of change. Get what you want and do what you want, but again, be smart about it.

The DSSD is worth a lot more. Why not buy a Sub LV and have both??? If you can of course--if not--hold your DSSD--you will always be able to add an LV later used.
