2 SS Daytona or 1 Nautilus 5711/1A

Hey guys and gals....if giving a choice? 2 SS Daytona (current model retail $9925) or 1 Patek Nautilus 5711/1A (current retail $23,000). If so over time which will be worth more in values? Which would you pick and why?

Daytonas. I am not a huge fan of the Patek Nautilus. I like pateks on leather/alligator straps.

How about ....

How about 1 Daytona and something different like a GMT or a Sub so that you have some variety. The Nautilus is a plain ugly looking watch, so IMO I would not buy it at any price.

how about 3 SS sub dates
1 for you, 1 for me, 1 for JJ

Seriously.... why not a Panerai and a SS Daytona

Or what about a Patek Aquanaut? That's a good looking watch IMO.

I think the Nautilus is a beautiful watch, btw.

Nice dilemma to be in though.

My thinking is this:
- Your investment is more secure with the two Daytonas.
- But a single more expensive, "nicer" watch is a great addition to any collection. The go-to watch for those special days.

I personally dont like the look of that particular PP, dont understand the whole hoo-haa about it, but i guess beauty is always in the eye of the beholder...

I'd get 1 SS daytona and either a IWC Big Pilot/Portugese or Breguet Marine Big Date, or a AP ROC (black dialed).

For such a high price tag, the Nautilus is a very ordinary-looking watch. If I'm not mistaken, it comes on a rubber strap....so I would much rather use that money to buy a S/S and TT Daytona - with two different dials for variety. And you'd still have some change left from $23k.

I expect it might be somewhat a matter of personal preference and if this was a Patek forum then the answers may well be quite different.

It really depends what you want in a watch enjoyment, resale, haute horology etc.

At least with 2 watches you aren't putting all your eggs in one basket.

It is a well known fact that Daytonas how their value quite well. Check out the second hand prices of the Nautilus and what they have sold for on ebay.

But if the Nautilus smiles for you and you can afford it go for it.

The Daytona has a very well regarded movement so it does have some serious horological status, just not a Patek.

I'm not a fan of Patek, so I'd pick anything from Rolex in that price range. If you haggle a bit, you could also get a YG Ceramic Sub or a YG GMT IIC for US$20K. Resale value may not be fine for YG Rolexes, but they look very cool.

If you wanna stick to SS, then a SS Daytona + a Yacht-Master would be a fine combo.

I don't care for PP's and especially the Nautilas so for me it's an easy choice. I would only purchase one Daytona.

Daytona any day, much better value and there will always be a market for them. Pateks are nice but have a limited niche market when you want to sell. Having said that I wouldn't want two daytonas, I'd buy something different like a vintage sub! Best of luck

I would go for 2 less expensive watches than that 1 particular Patek... never been a fan of that series! 1 ss Daytona and 1 TT GMT IIc would be my choice.

this is like the classic debate of 2 Omegas vs 1 Rolex
Omega fans will say 2 Omegas, Rolex fans would say Rolex
(both with good reason ofcourse)

too much bias here

Patek has a "limited niche market"? Surely you're kidding.

Get the one (or two) you like best.
