A word of advice: Grab the SS Sub-date 16610 while you can!!

Hi guys,

I have learnt from a very reliable source that new SS Sub-dates 16610 are not easy to find in the USA.

If so, I see some kind of pattern emerging here..........the same pattern as that for the GMT-II 16710.

As soon as the Ceramic version came out, the prices and demand for the 16710 shot up.......and today, ironically, the 16710 sells for at least a grand more than its SS Ceramic counterpart.

Wondering if the same will happen with the new Ceramic Sub-date once the initial oohs and aahs die down. Then, all of a sudden, there will be a massive demand for the current 16610.

So........might be a good idea to hang onto your present one.......or grab a new one (or even a mint one) while the going's good.

Call it an intuition, but I might just be right on the button this time.

You are right JJ as some people might not like the case size and the weight of the ceramic sub and the demand for the old one might go up, or the basic human nature will start playing it's role when simething is not easily available then it is in high demand.

No problems!! I should have mentioned in my post that the price and demand for the LV should go up as well, more so if it is discontinued since Rolex have now come up with the GREEN gold dial model.

JJ- I think you are probably right, but it's hard for us here to objectively know the inventory situation, there are so many ADs. From comments made in other threads there seems to be an adequate supply of the 16610LV at the moment, but that will eventually dry up. For the 16610 I think it's even harder to determine as there always has been a steady demand.

For the amount of Exp-II sales I generated from my review alone, Rolex should be giving me a brand new watch as a token of appreciation!!

I checked with BOTH my ADs here in Auckland. Each of them has just ONE piece of the 16610............both brand new very recent series.......and both should not last too long on their shelves.

Here in uk the dealers are giving six months waiting time as they are not getting many since the start of 2010 as I have asked a few main Rolex dealers.

I ordered a new 16610 at Christmas and picked it up on Saturday. It came with the new mixed number and letter serial. It is for my son's 18th, next year.
I have already seen the identical watch with the latest serial sell on Ebay for approx £300 more than I paid.

Most of the times I agree with you JJ but not on this one.

From the SS LV the first issued (real anniversary) the NIB will we sought after.
From the 16610 the "Swiss" dial (1998) will become sought after and maybe the tritium ones, Swiss only were produced the shortest period.

I have based my post on facts. 16610's are increasingly hard to find in the USA as well as other parts of the world. See the post of the guy just above me.

Give it another 6 months and I'll prove that what I have said today is true.

Funny, I started a thread back in early December saying that Rolex would not be supplying any more 16610s to US ADs as they were out of them. And people thought I was crazy and it was just a sales tactic from my trustworthy AD. Here's a link.

A couple months back a couple of members stated that the AD's in the US were being limited their supply of the Sub dates...
And most replies on here were along the line of "No such thing"....

Looks like they were right hey.
