question about Rolex distribution

I have a question.

I ordered 2 new Rolex watches from an AD. One for my wife and one for myself. My wife's watch came in within 2 weeks. My watch is taking a week or more longer to arrive at the AD. Why the delay, did my wifes come from a distribution center in the US, but mine is coming in from Geneva? It just seems like 3-4 weeks for a standard Rolex is a long time. Maybe they get stuck in customs or something?

just curious

Well, Rolex USA will keep a stock of watches on site - if they don't have a particular model in stock, then they'll have to wait for a shipment from Geneva

So if an AD doesn't have the Rolex you want, say one with a salmon dial, they can order it? And will they charge extra for that?

Thanks for the help, researching for my first Rolex.

They can order anything you want and will not charge more; but you will have to wait. When I got my 118238 I had to wait 7 months (it was just released @ Basel). Also, popular models (GMT, EXPy, DJ) are usually in stock @ New York.

Thanks! I can handle the wait... it's well worth it to get the exact watch I want.

I'm not sure if it's the case in the US, but the RSC here carries a stock of dials as well, and are able to do a dial change on a new watch free of charge. Should be a bit quicker than waiting to take delivery of one
