What happens if a purchase goes wrong with a TRF trusted seller?

What happens if there is an issue (eg. shipping) and the watch is lost? I know DavidSW, LawrenceB etc are all reputable sellers, but there are always a chance something may go wrong..

If a package is lost enroute to the destination insurance will cover the loss.

Package is shippers responsibility until it gets to it's desitnation and been signed and received by the buyer..Like everyone else Insurance covers it..

If lost in transit It's the seller responsability/insurance...
But if held in customs or any custom issues it should be the buyer's responsability...
Always there is a chance or problem when dealing international and the best way is to enforce those 2 cases before dealing...That's IMO
Oh and lots of praying fromt the moment you ship until it's signed for..

There is no such thing as a "TRF Trusted Seller".

There are TRF members who are trusted by other TRF members and that's an entirely different thing.

If in doubt, do not buy.

Check, check and check again "insurance" cover and courier/carriers policy, esp when buying/shipping overseas.

This is often not discussed enough. Insurance and what it does and does not cover. I have found that companies will SELL you insurance but when a claim is filed find a way not to pay. Example fed ex ohhh we dont cover watches over $1000.00 even though they sold insurance on it.I use a 3rd party insurance Parcel Pro and ship with Fed Ex. On International I have had cases where the insurance company would not insure shipment to a specific country or city. It is always best to find out 1st. And in cases where the buyer is from 1 of these places or wants to try and avoid something and asks you the seller to write clock part $45.00 ship regular mail it is the buyers risk and should be very clearly stated if the buyer agrees to this.

This is why I use USPS, insured up to $5K....

Pay insurance.
UPS/Fedex leaves package on front doorstep with a note.
Neighbor walks by and steals package.

Shipper will deny insurance claim. They delivered the box to the address. Their responsibility ends there.

Gotta get signature confirmation.

Buyer wires in money.
The seller confirms wire transfer and sends merchandise shipped insured.
Merchandise doesn't arrive.
Buyer notifies seller - is only course of action.

What will be the likely scenario;

- Seller refunds money right away?
- Wait for Insurance money?

as long as you buy from people here with good references and insured parcel.... 95% you're safe

What happens if a dodgy seller puts a rock (of similar weight to the watch) in the package and send it to the buyer?
Since the buyer signed for the package, the freight forwarder's duties are fulfilled so you can't claim shipping insurance.
I see that the buyer will have a very hard time convicing mobs like paypal for a dispute resolution in their favour(assume it's an ebay item).

How does one resolve/prevent this kind of issue? Do you:
1. open the package in front of the courier? (I don't see how this is relevant)
2. video tape your opening of the package in one cut.
3. what other remedy?

if the watch is lost, and insurance doesn't cover it for some reason, what happens then?
i know this is bordering ridiculous, and wont stop me buying it from some great sellers here, but im sure its in the back of many buyers heads

thats why its best to deal with established sellers when at all possible..in the last instance where the querant ask's "what if insurance denies the claim?"
thats a good question and I suspect in the situation where its not a professional seller
there might be litigation,or a shared responsibility resolution..where as say if that same scenario happened to one of my customers parcel and the insurance company denied the claim,then I would always cover the buyers expense..to me my reputation is my guarantee of a long career that is fruitful and fulfilling.It wouldnt be worth staining that reputation for 10 or 20k..or any amount really!
so I geuss it always comes back to trusting your seller..
thats why I dont understand the people who will risk several thousand dollars by buying from some unknown seller when they can buy from an established seller for a few hundred dollars more usually..to me its not worth the worry!

In the continental us Registered mail is the safest and cheapest way to ship. Yes it takes a little longer but really what's the hurry a day here and there. Everyone who touches your package has to sign for it. In 40 years knock on wood (as I hit my head) I haven't lost a package. Rik
