What is it that you like about Gold or any combination of, and whats your take as to why a "noble metal" takes such a hit after it sells "new" ?

"Nobility" -- I thought this was a thread about Tudors!
I like gold on vintage and dressier style watches, but not so much on 'tools'. Why a price hit? But mainly its because the number of people who are willing to buy a SS watch is - well 100% but for gold, its much lower, maybe 50%?
