Now that I think of it, I am pretty sure I used Carfax once before, but I don't remember if it helped or not.
This purchase is different. I have never yet come across a car dealer quite like the one who owns the car I am interested in. It is a 17 year old Porsche that has 20k miles on it. Documented. They sent me scans of all of the service records. The car is 350 miles away from me. The dealer says he is NOT negotiable. I told him I would book a day off and come and see it, and that I would want to have it inspected by a specialist in his city. He said, "no problem", that after I signed a contract on the car, stating conditional to inspection AND detailing the perameters of the conditions, he would be happy to oblige. I have never heard such BS in my life. I imagine that after travelling 350 miles to see it (not to mention 350 miles to go home), and forking over a couple of hunded for an inspection, he doesn't want me to change my mind for any reason I choose. He expects me to specify in advance what my cancellation reasons would be! Have you ever met a used car salesman that said the price was not negotiable? If he had any brains, he would have told me that he has only a tiny bit of flex or something along those lines. He is almost telling me not to waste my time. I think I just saved $35. I won't need that carfax report after all. Cheers! |
