New GMT ii C - I want to brush the PCLs
I have been reading from this forum for the past 3 years. A wealth of experience and information - thank you all. I finally purchased my first Rolex, a GMTiiC - it is a great watch. But I'm thinking, the PCL is too flashy for me and I really prefer the full brushed look. I know a lot of folks say that it will grow on you. I have debated it for some time. After wearing my watch for a couple of days now - I have decided to have the PCLs brushed. Any recommendations where I should have it done...there are a few forum folks from the Atlanta Georgia area. Any watchmakers you may recommend... Anyone else out there whom have had your PCLs brushed - and how did it turn out...(please post photos). Thanks in advance.

Great watch. I've seen a few pics on this board where people have brushed the entire bracelet...it looks great IMO!

I know exactly where you are coming from. I have also just purchased the GMT-IIc (my first Rolex) and I am not a fan of the PCL's either. I had my AD brush them out for me. However, I have yet to see the watch with the brushed links. It was shipped out of state after I purchased it (for sales tax purposes) and I am picking it up tomorrow. My AD told me it came out awesome, but I will find out first hand tomorrow. I will certainly post pictures later this week.
I bought my in NYC so I don't know of any places in Atlanta to recommend. Did you purchase from an AD? |

Hi Double 0 Se7en - the lume photo was shot with a led black light flashlight reflecting on the watch. The regular lume is green. Thanks.

Here's mine which I brushed several months ago. It's easy as pie. First brush with Scotch Brite and then add a few drops of household oil to some 4/0 steel wool and smooth everything out beautifully. It never ceases to amaze me how many people will not buy this watch because of the polished links when it's a no-brainer to brush them.

Thanks everyone for your feedback.
Quincydog - yes, I too bought my watch from an out of state AD. I was on the fence relative to brushing the PCLs when I order it. I wanted to give the PCLs an opportunity to win me over. Looking back, I would have the AD brush it (what you have done). I'm certain most AD could brush it for me. I will call around tomorrow to local ADs. I look forward to seeing your watch with the brushed PCLs. BTW - I spoke to one Rolex sales rep last year, he did not recommend brushing the PCLs, as it could bring the value down. I can understand his perspective. I do not plan to sell or trade the watch, so it should not matter. I can always the polish the center links if I need to. Thanks for sharing! |

Here another one (not my watch, picture taken from this great post. You'll find more images like this one, at the end of that page)
Cheers, Joe

I actually like the PCLs - it is stainless steel after all - and think the watch looks a little strange (at least at first) without them. But I can understand why some people prefer brushed. There's an article about this on Sheldon's website www.minus4plus6.com/116710.htm
Cheers

I dont think Rolex will take the watch back in for warranty or service if the band has been updated in some way.
Is this true? maybe you can just give them the watch without the band for servicing? I assume warranty on the bracelet is also void? |

i suggest not to play with the bracelet. it was really intended to look shiny. you'll get used to in in no time.
or you can just order a brushed braclet and switch it though. so you still have the pcl when you want it next time. |

That's a shame. I know it's personal choice, but I really like the PCL's.

PCLs do help the watch stand out from the sub and new sub-c.....maybe give it a month? you bought the watch, so you liked it enough at one time, and you've only worn it a couple of days. anyway, if you're going to brush out the PCLs, then there's no problem to have a few scratches before doing so, right?

You've only worn the watch a couple of days.
Give it a while longer. In some lighting conditions the PCLs on mine look absolutely awesome!! The watch is going to last you a lifetime. There's no rush ;)

I took my new GMT iiC to a Certified Rolex watchmaker yesterday and had him brush the PCLs. I am super happy with the results. I fully respect everyone who enjoys the PCLs, it is just a matter of preference - either way, it's a great watch!

Yes, I concur the PCLs suits the GMTiiC very well. I believe the brushed finish is equally suitable. One aspect of the brushed look is the continuity of the uniform finish - a nice blend between "old school" and "new school."
