Icon5 Now that I have a 5513, what does the future look

like with regards to value down the road? I know these watches have appreciated a great deal over the years and I was wondering what the future might hold for them. It's an early model if you don't already know, it's a 1.7 mil serial circa 1967.

Steve , why don't receive it and wear it for a while first ... and think of selling it later.

Serious , they must be one of the best models to have in terms of gaining value . Knowing where it came from , you should have a nice specimen . We see all too many " rebuilds " popping up for sale . I believe only the "good " ones will increase in value .

No selling intended Tristan, just curious if I am ever out on the street begging for ham sandwiches, at least I'll know how much it's worth..

I would like to know for the insurance as well..No plans on letting it go, unless a 5508 pops up and then of course I'd have to add funds and with the horse, new Merc, etc, well, you know the rest, can't do it...

Steve, since it's an honest, early model....you're investment should be safe. It also helps that they aren't making 'em anymore!

I hope it goes sky high for you Niko

but the values of the 5513, and 5512 have increased almost 30% over the past year, so it'll take sometimes for the market to digest. But hang on to it Niko, you have a winner in your hand there.

This is interesting. What about a 5512? Also, do they define what, very good, excellent and exceptional ratings require?
Thanks

Current reference prices listed for the 5512 Sub in Mondani's "100 Years of Rolex" book are as follows.

Fair Condition ...... $4100 - $4700
Good Condition ..... $6700 - $8100
Very Good Condition ..... $9100 - $10300
Excellent Condition ...... $11700 - $14700
Exceptional Condition ....... $19100 - $23500

They do not define what each rating requires ...... I only have the iPhone version of Mondani's book ..... so I'm not sure if it is defined in the book itself.
Perhaps one of our TRF sellers could give their opinion on the requirements for each condition.

Don't know about the watch's value down the road, but you might want to customize it. Maybe install a superdome plexi?

Steve, the 5513 is certainly not a rare reference, but it shows that rarity and collectability don't always go hand in hand. It's hard to imagine a collection of vintage Rolex divers without a 5513.

It's a reference that IMO is a win-win in that it represents a great daily wear with a good measure of potential upside as new collectors come into the hobby.

The superdome is far more streamlined than the standard crystal. Changing it would be a matter of taste as not everyone is crazy about the standard crystal and its tall sides.

Don't have pics of a superdome of my own, and I'm not sure about protocol regarding posting someone else's pic since I no longer know who posted them

(I have this habit of saving awesome pics on my computer for referrence, and not remembering who posted them )

Isn't it hard to predict what the future holds especially when forecasting price(value). I say wear it and enjoy it and whatever happens...happens!!!

Future looks bleak brother.

Once you've had vintage, you can't go back.
