"CLASH OF THE TITANS" - Hollywood's Special Effects team goes absolutely beserk!!!

Hi guys,

When the original version of CLASH OF THE TITANS was first released in 1981, some of its Special Effects were almost comical in comparison with today's standards.

However, the film was quite a hit at the time and we all enjoyed the effects which we didn't think were all that funny back then.

Today, however, the S.E. team has managed to come up with some magical software to create some truly mind-boggling effects for this new version.

The story-line is predictable and while the film meanders through its 1 hour and 45 minutes at a slightly roller-coaster like pace, the effects do leave the viewer aghast and simply blown away!!

How the hell do they do it? That's the one question which keeps popping out of your head when the film finally finishes its run.

Once again, this is really a BIG screen movie, unless you happen to have one of those super large TV screens with some terrific home surround speakers.

My rating: 6/10.

Cheers - JJ

Can you imagine what Ray Harryhausen could do with today's CG technology ? Is this a movie my 12 y/o would appreciate, or would he get bored ?

This movie is pretty much getting panned in the U.S. Funny, I always liked the original, cheesy though it might be.

Sorry JJ, this looks a mess!!!

The effects look cool but the 3d retroedit of a film shot in regular stock ruin the work of the fx guys.

I'll always have a softspot for the original...Olivier, Maggie Smith, Burgess Meredith and Bubo, the low rent clockwork owl (cough R2D2 ripoff). Also the original stop motion Medusa still gives me nightmares

Hi David,

Yes, a 12 year old would definitely enjoy it.

Like I said, the film just meanders along at a sometimes slower than steady rate. It has its moments, especially when Perseus goes after Medussa's head!! That whole scene is blinding and very well shot!!!

It's a kinda movie you could give a miss, but most kids will enjoy it.

Hello Jim,

Nice to have you posting here, buddy. Zemina and I both wear prescription lenses so we hate the 3D rubbish. It's a nuisance to wear those special specs over the ones we already have on.

Prefer to watch our films in normal flat screen versions.

Say Hi to Claire and little Wiliam from us. A few recent pics would be welcome, my friend.

Cheers - JJ

I struggled with Avatar, my glasses in addition to the xray spex made the image too dark.

William has chicken pox...just perfect for an Easter weekend...at least he got it early!!! Claire is fine and sends her love!!

Please give our love to Zemina, the girls and their husbands and to those wonderful grandchilden and wish them a happy easter also.

Will sort out some pix soon

I just saw Clash of the Titans last night and I liked it better than Avatar and I love that they changed the movie around a bit.

I liked the first movie, but I was a kid when it came out.

I think it was 8/10 personally.

This scored higher than Iron Man 2? No way! I'm having a disappointing movie week!

I saw the original "Clash of the Titans" in the movie theater...also, it seemed to be playing on an endless loop on HBO one year (1982 or 1983, rotating with "Excalibur," a much better film), so I saw it quite a bit. I have no desire to see the remake.
