This is my favorite holiday. Normally the wife and I have a big bash this weekend, but we're moving it to July because the weather is generally more reliable. She's Colombian and makes carne asada, empanadas, and tamales. Good stuff!

Cinco de mayo: " While Cinco de Mayo has limited significance nationwide in Mexico, the date is observed in the United States and other locations around the world as a celebration of Mexican heritage and pride." (wiki)

It's suppose to be a Mexican heritage and pride thing but, as I see it nothing more than time for a party. I know we celebrate other countries holidays too but, when all or most of Mexico doesn't celebrate it I ask why would we continue.. don't want wrong idea to go out so, need to get the emoticons in here :o)

On May 5th in 1862 that 2,000 poorly trained Mexican peasants fiercely fought and won the Battle at Puebla against a regiment of 6,000 French soldiers under the command of Napoleon III.

Observance of the Cinco de Mayo victory is a special symbol for all Mexican people who celebrate their rights of freedom and liberty, honoring those who fought and won against greater odds.
