I'd like some interior design help please :)
I am buying a new dining room set and need help with the chair selection.
The table is round and seats four. Do I get 2 armchairs and 2 side chairs? Or four arm chairs? The photo in the furniture catalog shows two armchairs and two side chairs. The salesman says get four arm chairs (and I think that is what I'd rather do) but I am pretty sure he is just as clueless as I am. Anybody know what is correct?

Post the picture in the catalog. It's impossible to give an opinion without seeing the options.

That is a lovely dining room set. I actually prefer the armless chairs because they seem to go better with the design of the table. However, they are not nearly as comfortable as having arms. Therefore, I would opt for the chairs with arms. If there's anytime you want comfort, it's while you're trying to enjoy a meal. Once again, I really like your taste; that's a great-looking dining set!

I have differing opinions. I kinda agree, the sidechairs might look a bit better with the table and would be easier to get into and out of - but I like sittin' in a chair with arms.
I guess I am going to get all arm chairs, I just needed someone besides my salesman to tell me it is okay. Thanks folks!

Go for the 2+2. I think the set as pictured is exactly what the designer intended. Notice how the arm chairs are at the ends of the table that have more room to accomodate them... allowing the entire set to appear larger, or more oblong in concept.

I would get it as pictured (2+2) that would also give more space to add a further chair if ever needed.

For a round table, I'd go with 4 arm chairs.

I say 4 side because we have a rectangular dining room table for 8 and the only arm chairs that came with it are on each end of the table....a round table doesn't have an "End" so, I guess, by default, it all side chairs.

I have two arm chairs for the ends of my table and four side chairs for the long sides.

At least get 2 of the arm chairs, it's nice to rest your arms and it discourages the bad practice of putting your elbows on the table (guilty!).

Side chairs for round table. For rectangular, 2 arm chairs at the ends.
