PAM 25 Advice
I'm considering purchasing a BNIB K series PAM 25 from a gray market dealer in Atl. I saw the watch Friday and was very impressed. The watch's list price is $7400 and I was offered the watch for $6100. The watch was intended for the Italian market, but I would be the first owner.
Does Panerai have a country code for their watches like Rolex and will I have trouble with the warranty? Is $6100 a reasonable price for this watch? Thanks in advance for any opinions.

Hi Monty - first thing I would check is that the warranty card has been stamped by a Panerai AD. If not, I would not purchase.
Cheers

Thanks for the responses. Warranty card is stamped by an AD and unsigned. Im not familiar with Panerai prices. Should I get more of a discount for a gray dealer? Thanks very much.

Well, technically, its not gray market. These watches are purchased by entrepreneurs, typically in Europe. First they find a friendly dealer who will give them 20% off or more. Then they have the watches detaxed on exit and get back another 15% (app.).
The watches are new, and they are usually dated by the dealer selling them. Hence the reason why you can buy BNIB and have cards dated one month or more earlier. The whole process takes time. It does not matter where you buy your Panerai, the warranty remains valid as long as it is dealer stamped. So they bottom line is really "the bottom line". Price. Understand that the owner may have paid 65% of retail plus expenses to get it there and then you can make a fair offer. Its pretty tough to get a decent discount here in North America, so buying new at 20% discount with no tax really is a reasonable deal. Take your time on the 25, though, as it is not a swift mover off the shelves. You may be able to do better with a bit of patience. |

Thanks very much canwatchco for the informative post. I'm taking my time and looking around for a deal. Does anyone have a suggestion on a reasonable offer for a watch that is sourced from Europe? Thanks again for everyone's help.

Best advice I know, I have 6 PAMs, 270J, 93D, 4B, 9B, 28B and a 201/A and all were bought 2nd hand. The 9B gets a lot of wrist time. |

Great advice from all. I'm going to start looking around for a pre-loved 25. Does anyone know how long the modern lume lasts? Thanks again.
