New LV
Hi,
I just bought a new 16610 LV as a bit of an impulse purchase last week (I had been looking for a while but not seen many about then got a chance tax free while abroad), however my better half is not too keen on me keeping it. I have tried to explain its a reasonable long term investment, well compare with 0.1% interest at the bank, but does this seem a reasonable argument. G. |

not an investment because an investment has upside but you can tell her that the watch will hold its value and if you are ever in a pinch for cash and you lose your job, the watch willbe worth darn near what you paid for it and you can easily sell. i bought a submariner as well, wore itfor years and sold it for $100 less than i paid for it new. now that my job situation is better, i am buying a new one.

It is your money, if you want to spend it on a Rolex, who is to say you can't ? Don't fool yourself into thinking it is an investment however, becuase it is not..it is simply an expensive, quality, luxury watch.

IMO It's not an investment unless you consider a cheaper watch almost 'consumable' or even 'disposable'.
ie: If you wear a £500 watch but buy one every year over ten years you've spent £5,000 & got maybe £1,000 in re-sale value. Buy a £5,000 Rolex & I'd be confident that you'd get that money back a few years down the line.

Buy a vintage for investment, and a modern for its wearability.
BTW, welcome to TRF!

Congrats on the LV, a great looking watch. Dont let it go, I flipped mine and regret it now... Good luck with the wife, that is a uphill battle. My advice, pick her up a ladies DJ and see what happens
As others have said investment-NO A great watch that you can wear for years and most likely get your $$$ back out of it when you sell it-YES Good Luck, Adam

Thanks for the replies I guess you are all right the investment arguement does really fly but I would sooner have one than money in the bank at this point in time (you can't take it with you).
I guess I will just do some more pleading. Regarding the question on price In the UK list is £4070 to I picked it up at Heathrow for circa £3400. |

If you are thinking of getting an LV as investment, you should be looking at the 2003 LV, the first year the LV was sold.

Congrats on the new LV And a big welcome to TRF.
As for investment ,NO - As for sickness YES and if you stick around here for any time, you will find yourself buying more Rolexes and wake up one day realizing you need a 12 step program
