A Good Deal?

I am hoping to benefit from the collective wisdom of the forum:

I bumped into what look like very good deals on 2 different pre-owned Rolexes:
1) A 2006 Sea-Dweller for $2750, and 2) a Subdate for $2300.

The site claims the watches are in mint condition.

I'm a novice with Rolexes and buying pre-owned.

Do these prices sound plausible? They seem very low to me. (I did write to them to ask if they could verify authenticity. Is there a way to do that?)

Many thanks!

Be very careful! Why would a website sell those watches for that price? Either something is wrong inside, or they could be scams.

Those people could tack $1,000 onto the price, and still be competitive. I've been scammed, and can tell you that if it's too cheap, something isn't right!

Definitely way too good to be true IMO as all have said. There are lot's of great trustworthy people here and on the other popular watch forums to get a genuine deal at fair market value.

You've either stumbled on an unknowing seller, or one that knows too well.

Smells to high heaven. If it was legit, a re-seller would buy the Sea-dweller for $3,700 and resell for $4,200. I know as I recently had my Sea-dweller up for sale and I had a number of offers in that ballpark from resellers. My Sea-dweller was an A Series (1998). Keep your money, and go with someone who has a solid reputation on TRF or TZ.

Also, I recommend you search on the "Watch Out" portion of the forum for the website you found.

This website matches your prices. Here is a thread from the "Watch Out" section of TRF. Thieves plain and simple. http://www.rolexforums.com/showthread.php?t=128758

Thank you, everyone--

You confirmed my suspicions that these prices were too good to be true.

George Ab--the link to the site to watch out for was exactly the site I had discovered--nywatches.net.

I'll know to stay away!

[/I]I kind of posted something similar yesterday but... my two cents.

The days of finding a "steal" are rare. With today's technology it's very easy for anyone to find market value of a watch or any item they are selling. When the website is there to sell high end watches, you know they are researching the market, any price that seems to low is clearly there to grab a "sucker"!

Sure, every now and then you may get a "miracle" but it's not as likely as in years past when you would have the little old lady who sold her husband's Presidential for $300.

I guess it's a good thing that there is a site like this to talk it out...but the number of people who get roped into these deals still amazes me - makes me sad for some of the older and less fortunate in our society who don't have a forum like this and get preyed on and become victims.

Anyway, just my thoughts to go with my coffee.

-Pete

This site is great, I was in the process of ordering one of those very watches, however I'm a cop and it just didn't sit right with me. After joining this forum I'm canceling my order. Many thanks, i'll get my first Submariner elsewhere!!
