Love my Pam 24 Kind of!
Look, I bought a Pam 24 and loved it. Wore it everywhere. Did not even bother me that dress shirts would not fit over it. Then I bought a SD. NOw the Pam looks too big and I am thinking That i do not like 44mm. What do you think of the 40mm Pams? are they ladies watches? will they still look big, but not out of control like the 44mm?

Based upon the selling prices of pre-owned PAMs, the 44mm Luminors hold value much better than 40mm Luminors.

Allow yourself sufficient time to adjust - often you will read on TRF of people switching from Rolex to Panerai and then feeling that their Rolex is 'too small'.
Enjoy them both and stick with the 44mm PAMs Cheers

There are different watches for different situations IMHO. It is all up to you.
I'm not going to tell you 44mm is money and 40mm is too small and girly. Wear whatever YOU are comfortable with. There are people here on TRF that say my 44mm is a clown watch. I don't care. I have watches of all sizes. I don't focus on the size of the watch, it is more about the style and purpose of the watch.

44mm is what makes a PAM a PAM IMHO. I've owned a 48 and flipped it in a matter of months for a larger piece.

I feel your pain. I flip flop between thinking my Panerai is ultra cool and clowny large. Right now I'm back into the small watch. Heck, I love wearing my 36mm datejust!
I find that the 44mm works great is casual settings. I can't really wear it to my work as it draws way too much attention and doesn't fit (IMO) with my office dress wear. I guess part of that stems from the fact that I have 6.5in wrists. Having said all of that, I would not own anything smaller than a 44mm Panerai as the size is part of the signature style. Might as well get rid of it all together. I wouldn't recommend it though. I sold a Pam176 awhile back when I was in the "this watch is too big" phase and have regretted doing so. I had to buy back another Panerai and lose some dollars in the whole process! |

i read a post here on trf & a person stated that the catalog read MENS: 44mm and the 40mm was for women and children. Not sure it was true so i looked it up and didnt find anything.
Anyone, wear what you like and check the link below for case sizing suggestions http://www.rolexforums.com/showthrea...ght=bigmikebee |

Dude, everybody on this board will tell you that 44 is not the way to go as its not true to Panerai. I TOTALLY DISAGREE with this logic. Its like saying that because i want a 40 mm Rolex i am not being true to the original iconic Rolexes like the Explorer I which is 36mm. (pre 2010 basel). A man with a 6in wrist looks IMHO ridiculous with 44 pam on. You have to buy things that you like and it doesnt matter unless you have a re sale value concern. The 40s dont do a well because of the feeling out there that is perpetuated by the public as it is less iconic. If you are into fashion, then all of the trends are heading back to smaller watches...not small like 34mm but not bigger than 40mm. With that said, buy what you like but here is a good example... I tried on a 44 at Tourneau and the saleslady knows me and also knows that I was ready to buy and she said "Dude it looks too big" , and she only had 44s in the case. Tourneau is notorious for trying to sell watches just to make a sale and if SHE told me that it looked bad and she was about to make alot of money off of the sale, then you know it looked ridiculous. Just my 2cents. What is really funny is that a 40 looks really big on a 6in wrist so everyone will think its a 44 anyway if that any consolation. I have a 40 and thats what happens to me. LOL!!!

I have a 40mm marina and the 44mm titanium submersible. For my taste the 44mm marina looks too big because the watch is all face with essentially no bezel. My size preference for the 40 mm marina is more about the appearance of the face than the mass of the watch. The submersible in 44mm, although larger, seems perfect to me size wise because of the bezel. As has been said, personal taste is why we have so many choices.

I wore 44-47mm PAMs for ages. Recently sold them all and thinned the herd. My GMT IIC has been my daily wearer for a bit, but my girlfriend has the 49 I bought her a few years ago...and it STILL feels too small. IMHO a PAM should be 44mm. Just my opinion though.

Agree 100% .... I enjoy having the choice of a bigger watch when the mood takes me there...when I want the 104, DSSD or PO then only they will do...the others look tiny.. Then I want the big ones off and love the smaller sizes..GMTs, daytona, sub....so keep it. You'll return.

I know it's all about personal taste, etc., but, is there a general consensus on minimum wrist size to pull off the 44 and have it look like it fits properly?
As in, sure, everyone is entitled to an opinion, but, there's still right and wrong....LOL. Thanks..... |

Well true but these days, I have seen gals wearing Dayotna 18k & DD II to the beach. And those are too big for their wrists. I have seen also guys wearing U-Boat that looks like clocks on their wrists. To me, maybe those are too big. But to them, I am sure they know too, but they like it! LOL!!! So at the end of the day, I think it is up to their own personal tastes. After all, not everyone has the same taste in watches and fashion.
