Went by my AD this afternoon and dropped off my wife's TT Lady DateJust with Oyster band, and my SS GMTII Red / Black for service. They'll ship them to the RSC in Dallas tomorrow and hopefully I'll get them back in time for Thanksgiving!!

Anyway, while I was there (wearing my Omega Speedmaster Professional) I spied a TT Blue Sub, a TT Black Sub, Explorer, Explorer II White face and a SS / Plat Yachtmaster, mens and ladies. Wow, I was shocked they had the TT Blue.

So I ask to see the TT Blue and they showed it to me, and quoted me $7825.

I asked about what I really want, the Explorer, and they quoted me $4250 out the door.

So is the Explorer any kind of deal or is this AD too high? I paid $4200 out the door for my D-Series SS Sub/Date on October 1, 2006. A more expensive watch than the Explorer, but not nearly as rare in the jewelers case. Any opinions??

Well, when I surfed over to the AlanFurman site (a brick and mortar gray dealer) he's got the Exp 1 list price at $4250 and his price at $3890, so it appears your AD is willing to discount only to the extent of sales tax in your neck of the woods.

The Exp 1 is a very common item, and even often appears on various sales sites, both individual and internet vendors. I've seen lots of them, offered in like new condition with boxes and papers.

I don't think that's much of a deal, but that's just my opinion, and I just got done posting about how we're all trying to strike a balance between the absolute lowest price and dealing with someone who knows what they're talking about when they open their mouths about Rolex.

Are you talking about the Explorer I or Explorer II?

For Explorer I, you aren't really getting a deal but for the Explore II, it is a pretty good deal.
And for your D series SS Sub Date, the price is pretty attractive, good purchase.

Explorer, the original, not the Explorer II. I don't think it is much of a deal. I bet I could get them below $4k for cash. I don't need it, in fact, it's just another black faced Oyster to add to the collection. If I had any sense I would spring for the white face ExpII or something a little dressy like a DateJust with Jubilee.

I think if your seriously looking to buy it might be worth it to check with different dealers even if means driving 100 miles or more. I must be very lucky because I have two AD within 25 miles that discount, 10% on SS, 15% on TT and 20% on all gold. And one that depending on model and stock might do 20% on all! 10% of $5000 to me is worth a drive! Bill

I would rather go with a DJ since you have 2 sport models already... SS DJ with black dial and romans is stunning!! just please get it with the oyster band

As long as your cost is equal to or below retail, you are okay. Of course getting more off is always a plus.

Got the estimates back on my wifes DJ and my GMTII. $550 for hers including new crystal, stem, tube, general refinishing and service, and testing. Mine will be $760 for new bezel insert, new crystal, stem and tube, factory gaskets, new hands (including 24-hour hand), and factory refinish.

3 to 4 weeks and I'll get them back!!

Sounds about right. And they will look and run like brand new watches, for a reasonable investment. Beautiful!!!

He's just disounting the taxes... So if you want it, buy it, however you can definitely do better than that price.

You really want to consider sending in your watches yourself if time out of service is important to you.

Your first post was back on Feb. 13th. You're in Georgia. Even USPS registered mail would have meant receipt of your watches in Dallas by the Feb 19th and your would have had your estimates to OK by the 23rd. You'd be one week into a repair by now. And you'd be paying the same price. I hope interacting with your AD pays dividends in other ways because they're a bit slow in the processing.

But, on the bright side, get ready for two Rolex watches that look brand new and will run true for the next 10 years or so. Dallas does really quality work.

They didn't ship them until that Friday. Besides, I'm pretty patient considering I have the Sub, Speedy Pro and others to enjoy I haven't missed the GMTII at all.
