I find that I am most happy when no one notices what I am wearing, call me crazy.

Interesting post...

I have to admit that not too long ago I was standing infront of a SS daytona and a TT Daytona..

My initial thought was that I liked the TT much more...

But.

The struggle for me was balancing out the personal response with the idea that the SS is more desirable and collectable.

I'd be lying if I said that the draw to the SS wasn't what others would think.

Ultimately I'm proud of myself that I went with what would make me happier, but you are right...at least for me, the response that others might give was a hard urge to resist...

So delusional or not....either you are in the less than 1 percent or you are like the rest of us. LOL That is the BOTTOM LINE!
THANK YOU You saved me some time.

I've never owned any of my Rolex wristwatches to encourage wrist envy. I simply love the watches. I love the durability, beauty and style.

So it got me to thinking (which usually hurts), how much of the love I have for my Daytona is due to the envy of other's that want one? None. I love fine timepieces. End of story.

I understand your question completely Paul...but... I will tell you what.

I have seen a lot of Rolex models coveted by people here on the forum. There are certain models you couldn't pay me to wear regardless of how coveted they are though. I won't of course provide example because that would be poor decorum.

I don't buy as investment either, so I buy what I like and I don't give a hoot what others think about it...

It always tickles me when these threads start 'Help me decide which of these 5 watches you think I should buy'.....I just don't get that...Likely my own paradigm here and don't mean to offend anyone.....

Absolutely spot on Rick, there were some very coveted models that I just would not want, my example is the Milgaus; (I can feel the slings and arrows of all the MG owners now). Please no one take offense, it's a beautiful watch, but a couple years ago when the green crystal was all the rage, I wouldn't wear it if someone gave one to me. It just was not what I liked.

I got my Daytona because it's the model I wanted, but I must admit, that I feel a sense of... pride? When someone is envious. I still would have chosen the Daytona, but that little bit of... "coveted ownership" (still guessing what to call it here) DOES add a little bit of enjoyment.

Eh.. like I said, maybe I'm a shallow, self centered, ego- Etc Etc Etc

I 100% agree. To me, a small part of the fun of owning a rolex, is knowing not everyone else can get one. Thats why most of us feel a little better when we wear one.

I look at it this way, if Rolex watches didnt cost big $$, (at least big to me), The following and appreciation would not be there.

That has never been a driver for me.

I like'em, because I like'em; not to mention quality, thoughtful classic designs, robust, history, innovation, large market to buy/sell into, and on, and on.
