Digital Camera Just Died!

My digital camera just died. It was a Sony MVC FD-95, I had it for about 6 years, the control buttons started not to react to my touch, and now finally went altogether. Need help on picking a new Digital camera, one which can take extreme clear closeup shots. Any recommendations!

What's the budget?

A Canon P&S would be a good get (SD6xx) series. Digital SLR are great but you'll be spending $$ on macro lenses. The kit lens for DSLR can do the job but not at a close up angle like 5" or so.

Pete also just bought a new P&S (Sony cybershot)... http://www.rolexforums.com/showthread.php?t=14391

Have a look at the photos.
