Omega is Omega and Rolex is Rolex. The price difference between the two watches really puts them in different spheres. Rolex competes with Panerai, to some extent Brietling, IWC and Hublot. Omega competes with TAG Heuer, Tudor, Longines...

All the above companies make excellent watches, but with luxury items you do pay for the name too.

The main difference for me is Rolex is a better long term ownership proposition. Parts are available for 25 years after model end of life. A Rolex is easily recognizable as their watches use common elements (bracelets, cases, bezels).

Omega is better value for money. Parts will be available for 10 years from EOL I think.

The real issue is pride of ownership. Omega makes too many models which vary too much and thus there is no "Omega" look IMHO. The also make too many limited editions, which make limited editions a joke. I think Omega is a great brand, which makes good watches, but they should buckle down a bit and get some sense of direction.

My first nice watch was an 18k President that I sold to fund the purchase of a collection of 17 Omega watches. Since then I have owned almost a hundred different Omegas with representative of all the lines including a museum piece. I am a die-hard Omega fan.

I've owned Omega GMTs but two years ago, I bought an EXPII to fill the GMT niche in my collection. It was a good choice although I did not care for the stamped steel clasp and the Cyclops interfering with the crisp, clean look of the dial.

Although I have now replaced the EXPII, I would still choose it over any of the current Omega GMT models.

Definitely goes to show the bang for your buck you can get with Omegas!

Can't wrong either way..though this is a Rolex forum so you can understand the bias here!
