Speaking of Oil....

In this edition of watch-time magazine (HIGHLY reccomended) there is an article where the editors are given a tour of the Rolex factory. One point they made, that is just incredible to me, is that for ALL the watches made, Rolex uses LESS THEN 10 LITERS of lubricating oil! What is that? 2.5 gallons? For all the watches Rolex makes in one year! Wow... I don't know if it's suprising to anyone else but I just can't get over that... My car uses more.

That does seem like a surprisingly small volume indeed. 10 Litres = 10,000 ml. Rolex makes about 1,000,000 watches per year give or take??, so the quantity of lubricant per watch is about 1/100th of a ml?? not very much at all. Perhaps it takes less than a pin head of a drop at all of the vital spots

That is an amazing bit of information.
No point going into the oil business to supply oil to watch companies

Don't be too hasty Steve.

10 litres of ProLink is a good sale.

Besides the Rolex oil thing, I was also impressed by stats on advertising. Rolex is #1 at $48 mil., Breitling is #2 at $24 mil., yet curiously, there is no advertisement, article, or picture of B. watches. There IS a B. advertisement in my Car and Driver magazine. A huge chunk of their advertising expense must support their Red Bull Race airplane. FWIW.

Well, with all the oil BP continues to dump into the Gulf, none of us will ever have to buy oil again! we can just get it out of the ocean for free!

Great information on the Rolex oil usage.

On a more serious note, that is really a sad situation about the oil spill and how we/our next generation is going to be impacted/affected for decades to come.

I've worked in the oil industry for over 20 years and I share your sentiment...this is an environmental disaster of incredible proportions. I don't think the world is being told how bad the situation really is and will be for many many decades to come. It's sickening to think about... for the people of the Gulf region and the planet

Some people most likely think it is not in my backyard, however it will affect everyone in the world and end up in everyones backyard. This is really sad for all of us.
