The bad reception with the new iPhone 4 is NOT a rumor, it's true :(

Well, after I got my iPhone 4 out of the box, and I was hold it and playing with the apps, I noticed that I hardly had any bars of reception. With my 3G, I had at LEAST 3 bars of AT&T service. I found that strange. So, I put the iPhone 4 down, and low and behold, the bars went back up. I picked up up again, and the bars started to drop. Simply unreal Apple designed the antenna on this new phone so we could get BETTER reception, not so that it would make it worse by our hand blocking the signal lol

Here is a video that I want to share with all the current (and future) iPhone 4 users: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_GqUG...os=SGp2jwI4-Lg

That is NOT my video, but a good friend of mine who does excellent phone reviews, and also (like myself) and AVID iPhone user.

I'm hopping Apple has a fix to this problem

Love love LOVE my iPhone 3. But not as a phone. Still, there's an irony to the fact that the biggest complaint about prior iPhones was that they worked (when they did) poorly as phones, and now, in an attempt to fix that, they've made it so you can't make a call at all. Until they're done fixing it, I'll stick with my 3G. But I'll get the 4 when the bugs are gone.

As for the problem, I'm sure the people at Apple are working for some software upgrade to fix the issue. Unless the issue is to big for it to be JUST a software upgrade (ie, something along the lines of fixing the hardware itself, like say . . . the antenna lol).

Only time will tell. Overall though I am VERY happy with the phone. The quality of the screen is simply unreal. It's like your holding live images in your hand. It's something you have to see for yourself to understand :) Now, off to shoot some HD video :)

I added a case to my iPhone 4 to see if that would help the issue. Happily, I can report that it has made a difference, Apple still has some explaining to do.....

No problems here guys. Actually haven't even noticed the bars moving up or down depending on how I hold the phone. From what I read, it could be software issue which can easily be fixed with a software update.

I have found that the issue is more pronounced in areas where coverage is not at 100 percent.

Heh.

You joke, but you'll probably see fitted antenna solutions popping up since the exterior is part of the array.

That would be funny!

I think it's probably more likely that it will spur a demand for cases.

I've read multiple reports saying that helps quite a bit!

Yeah, you're right.

I suggested in the other thread that people may want to consider having the clear plastic film attached to the metal surround.

I use bluetooth accessories, so that would not be an issue for me I suppose.

But I also use protection (case).

While not an Apple fan myself, they've certainly pushed many innovations that we all enjoy.

Granted that's a gross exaggeration on my part.

This problem is a good reason why I wait a few months after a new product comes out so they can see what the problems are and fix them. Plus I still have slightly over a year to go with my present iPhone 3GS contract!!!

Sorry to hear of this .. all who have got the iphone 4 it must be a real pain.

As for Apple..well I'd have got the phone if it were available here...but then the USA must test for the rest of us poor suckers who have to wait

Well, I would argue Apple has only popularized technology innovations.

Xerox PARC invented the mouse and current window model for computing. The Macintosh simplified and popularized it.

Portable MP3 players existed long before the first iPod (I already owned 2 before the first iPod was even announced), but mainstream folks didn't really know about them

Apple -did- show the world -how- it wanted its phones to work, but the individual functionality was available years before the first iPhone, it just wasn't as elegantly presented.

Multi-touch was invented by a company called Fingerworks. Apple bought the company, and proceeded to bring an obscure technology to the mainstream.

I truly believe that iOS is behind the curve at this point. Its multitasking is lacking and the notification system is universally criticized. Palm's WebOS is the best mobile OS solution/ecosystem right now, but has very low adoption rates. Luckily for those unwilling to buy a Palm, Google and Apple have been buying away talent from Palm, so the innovations should soon be on a Droid or iPhone near you within a year or so.

BTW, Apple just hired the guy from Palm who developed their notification system. It's uber slick and elegant...
